thanks for the reply. Like you I love the monk towers and I hate deviating from my preffered play style. Will keep this info handy. What shards do you suggest in the flame auras and frosties?

    Flame Auras:

Firstly use a medallion or mark, which ever has the highest stats that you can find, secondly I will assume you have 50/50 range gambit and 20/20 defense crit capped in your ascension tree. These are the most important stats to cap first.

    • Medallion shards: Power Transfer, Range, Defense Rate
    • Mark shards: Crit damage, Range, Defense Rate

    Frosty Towers:

If you want to maximize damage you will need a Medallion for this tower, if you have problems with your Frosties dying (fix your positioning :P) you can use a totem too. I do not recommend totems, except for starting C7, but frankly you should replace all your Frosties with Proton beams or Oil Geysers for C7. You can also use Boost Auras purely to buff crit damage, but again not recommended due to how bad and expensive this tower actually is.

    • Medallion Shards: Frosty Power, Range are mandatory. you then can chose the following: Freeze shard for more CC, Destruction for a bigger DP buff or Duel beam shard (forgot its name) this is not to double proc the buff as that no longer works, but to double your chances to get a frosty power buff on your flame auras. Remember your auras are out of the lanes so this is hard to achieve and 2 beams improves the chances.
    • Totem shards when you need maximum health: Range, Fortification (more health), freeze.
    • Totem shard when you need no extra health: Range, Vampiric, Frosty Power.

    Disclaimer

I have not played with Frosty Towers since C5 was end game, so I am not omniscient and you should experiment :)

I do not want to say that every pet that has not global % dmgm is useless. But they are 99.9999% less useful than those that have it.

    So Dracolich>all , no brainer

The only thing that can be issue on higher levels are rollers, and those sweet 50million crits with dracolich can not be touched by something like 150% hero dmg attack

It is not even funny how much better the terror dragon is,reducing the real choice to him or him.

Ofcourse if you just like looks of other pet and DPS or max chaos you can beat does not matter to you, just pick the kawaiiest pikachu ingame.

end game pets are only used to kill rollers, drago does not help by buffing defenses against them.

Dragolitch is therefore only good for ability power builds to increase their damage by 100% for 5 seconds every 60 seconds.

While hero damage builds get a massive 120% for 8 seconds with a cooldown of just 45 seconds from poisonous tips.

When it comes to rollers (the only valid pet cd dump) I would go for a poisonous tips every day. Now with that said, nuke pets are also very strong and have gotten stronger since the brimstone nerf, so whos to say a 2500% or 2750% is not just as good as poisonous tips verses rollers, at least on solo.

On public or multiplayer, having 1 dragolitch would be mandatory if rollers were a serous threat however, due to them effectively buffing everyone. But with that said, then a Monk also becomes mandatory due to their self buff. I can personally attest to no public game ever being that well organised or requiring that much organisation anyway :D

Dragolich is still gonna be the better pet, since it boosts all damage, including the one coming from you and your poisonous tips. (if we were beating on the same roller for instance)

Yep that was the one caveat i added in my post you quoted, that being; a single drago (maybe 2 if you want to have drago for double roller spawn, very rare) is worth it in multiplayer. But from that point on all other pets should be poisonous tips as they give the greatest personal single target damage. Oh and a Monk gives an even bigger dps boost to HD heroes then drago, so a monk is even more valid verses some kind of "roller nukefest" in multiplayer games.

Matchmaking is spotty at best from my experience. I've seen the same thing you just wrote about. Forcing us to group to not get split up is pretty silly to begin with.

If you are in a game of 4 people, and you all hit "Continue" and not "Tavern", there's absolutely no guarantee you won't be split up in some wonky way. For example: I've been thrown into a game with 1 other person (a 10 ascension player who made a public C7 match to get carried no less) after seeing the 4th person hit "Continue" at the end of match screen in a prior C7 match. I've then found later something similar happened to one other from the group. So that means it split us into 3 (at minimum) matches instead of keeping us in 1. It just shouldn't be happening and it can't make life easy on the server creating so many instances. I don't like having to party up and force everyone to suffer all the "Do you want to stay with the party" messages if we continue on, or someone leaves, etc. It just gets annoying after awhile.

Ok thats just silly, I dont even know why they would have it set up that way from the very outset. One would assume that if a group of 4 hit continue one stays together... I simply grouped up because I wanted to do something else and offered to effectively "carry them" if they wanted to tag alone.

[[172096,users]] I am not expecting perfection at all, I am just making a post on this topic to highlight its clear need for improvement. Maybe I was unlucky, but it seems very unreliable from what I have been told by others and from my own (but limited) experience.

  5. So I set up a public game on C1 to complete a trial map to unlock the weekly incursion.

I then told the 3 other guys who were all kind of new that I would be doing a few maps if they wanted to tag along and grab some loot.

At the end of the game before leaving I invited them all. Since I wanted to do Chrome Enemies next (incursion and weekly) I told them all to hit tavern.

This is where it got sketchy:

    1. First we are all on a very slow loading screen...
    2. Then I spawn in the public tavern...
    3. They are still loading in...
    4. I then create a new game, I did not wait for them to load in because I was kind of interested in stress testing this process and thought its not unreasonable to assume player would do this anyway.
    5. I enter Chrome Enemies incursion and all 3 of my party members "leave group".
    6. One later joined, he said "you left me in a dark tavern".

Anyway, as you can imagine, not that impressed with my first ever public group.

Lets not turn this into a flame/hate post, I just want this to be seen as reasonable feedback.

I agree with @Zimmermann about shield geode absorb.Maybe they can work this way.

    • Shields absorb not reflect like zimmermann said.
    • If Geode hit by any projectile shield geode actives new buff for enemies. %X damage reduction from any defense for enemies inside in geodes shield.(hero damage stay same)
Damage reduction doesn't need to be too high. This way Shield Geode still counters projectiles and players must be careful when hitting geodes.

Yep I like that, and one more thing...

Ground defenses have one counter, the EMP Orc while projectile towers have: Vanguards, Goedes and EMP Fliers and are much more susceptible to Hex throwers.

Now this does not matter to much if they are all restricted to the same game mode. However that would mean the following:

    • When EMP Orc's are used you can't add Vanguards, Goedes or EMP fliers or you counter every tower in the game pretty much. What special unique monster types are left? hex throwers?
    • While if you have a tier with no EMP orc's (current Chaos 7) you can add every single special enemy in the game.

A side effect of the above is, you can build with some ground defenses on chaos teirs where you have EMP Orc's as you only have to get round one mechanic, while building with lets say ballista's and cannons on a mode where you have every counter is much much harder. Now I understand trendy cant really care about this, but its annoying when you want to challenge yourself to something different.

    @Zimmermann quote:

My problem with goedes is they are such a good hard counter to projectile towers that even 1 or 2 spawning on non goede teirs is enough to put people off using projectile towers even there. Meanwhile I have cleared all EMP Orc maps with flame auras.

Its fun to be able to beat hard counters with the towers they hard counter through better placement, great gear and playing better. Its not fun to stop using a single tower for ever because of one silly monster.

    My suggestion:

    • Goede shield now only absorbs damage, it no longer reflects
    • Goede shields absorb the same amount of health as a standard boss on that difficulty (also effected by multiplayer scaling), after being destroyed the goede is stunned for 6 seconds before recasting its shield.**

**the goede shield health could be change, but I would say absolutely no less then a bosses health pool on that difficulty.

My biggest issue with the emp orcs is they even attack straight up or areas they should not be able to reach. IF i place and aura no where near them they seem to long range attack right at it even thought the range is maxed with a DS shard in it they still nail it. EMP orcs are still Op they need a nerf and should not have a ranged attack.

They are not OP at all they are just a bit annoying, this is how I handle EMP orc's with Flame Auras.

    1. Place outside of the lane and watch carefully how far away you need to place them so they are not attacked. You should use 50/50 gambit + range shard.
    2. In some cases Auras will be stomped, in these cases make sure they do not line up with additional auras from the perspective of the EMP Orc. By lining up I mean a very wide line from the the initial Aura to any others, and yes the EMP shockwave is extremely wide!
    3. If lining auras up is unavoidable, i suggest placing decoy auras. these auras are placed specifically to trigger the EMP Orc's first attack while the other auras kill it. Obviously the decoy aura is placed so when it is EMP'ed it sends the EMP shockwave in a completely harmless direction.
    4. Use powerful slows and freezes to CC enemies in the hopes of slowing orcs to the point they may die before being in range to EMP or freeze/stun them before they use their EMP.

I personally used Flame Auras + 2 frosties per lane on all C5 maps back when Flame Auras were very weak and C5 was "end game".  Good luck whatever you end up doing :)

  9. @Plasma quote:The best outcome of a WM nerf is that everybody will spam Flame Auras. If you actually want to promote diversity than you have to look towards the actual causes.

forgive me for skim reading your post so apologies for any ignorant comments :)

I understand your issue, but the easier way to balance is to simply rotate the meta rather then trying to constantly balance. If I think of overwatch, they have huge imbalances and then attempt to nerf to fix and slowly but surely it improves the game but at a much higher workload to the devs. Meanwhile diablo 3 all they do is rotate the sets and fix glaring bugs.. while constantly increasing the power. This also works for "balance" with a much lower workload for a much smaller team.

So in short, i see the most realistic solution for trendy to be: rotate end game monster counters to force "re-balancing" of tower choices while also nerfing the meta or buffing the non meta. The end result will be players chose different towers as the meta shifts with the effect much like diablo 3 of "seeming" balance while in fact all it is is a rotation of meta towers.

Now both solutions work to a degree, that being; players use different towers and when the meta gets boring a new meta is effectively born to entertain players once more.

Is it true balance? no. But does it keep the game fresh? yes.

I ran Catacombs C1 with Archers, then with Ballistae

    Archers was AFK

Ballistae I had to use other support towers, and, shock horror, walls.

    #SadFace kobold.png

I actually don't have a problem with Ballista's I have a problem with how every difficulty seems to have at least 1 goede (maybe this has changed now, not played that much recently) and how utterly shafted all projectile towers are against that counter.

I would 100% be using ballistas if it wasn't for those damn goedes. But I wont disagree with you that overall they cost to much and their rate of firing is boring. I will also add that if you are right about the splody harpoon only working on the first target (not tested this myself) thats a big problem in the long run.

I would like to say though, ballistas are not that good on catacombs because of the lane layout, while the lanes are prefect for archer coverage so frankly archers should out perform them if all other things were equal.

  13. I did my daily missions public on campaign to help some people leveling. I selected hard so hoping to help those most up for a challenge.

It resulted in one guy joining and 70 second wait times each build phase, i asked multiple times very politely for the gentleman to press G but to no avail... I guess he was unable to read English despite playing a game that is as far as I know only available in English.

  14. I do everything with monk and squire. Squire i use for more tanky rolls from afking and buffing defenses to flamethrower tanking.

Monk I use for any real dps requirements, it has extremely strong ranged dps even after the change to brimstone.

I do not know the state of the game right now, so its possible other classes are even stronger... but that "even stronger" is just not remotely required. Monk easily, extremely easily meets every dps requirement the game has to offer as of right now.

A lot of abilities don't damage rollers from behind.

my poor flamethrower squire also seems to tickle him. but sadly i think this is due to how it functions, just like how auras and traps do no damage to his "special spot".

But its not hard to figure out what does and doesnt work.

This means only one thing, Trendy bought a "censorship" package to insure non offense words would be used for hero creation, this is most likely a common way of handling such issues. I always doubted that trendy would have some member of staff manually banning words/names, so its all making sense to me now :)

    Try Lucifer or Mephisto.
