Yes, I just did this.

Any bets on how many people will actually drop mana tokens before someone comes in and cleans the place out? It's all high-end myths, with a couple trans and supremes.

he put some stuff up for sale and you can pay whatever you think the gear is worth.

He then wonders how long it will take before his shop is out of items and how many tokens he'll end up.

Sarcasticly he isn't expecting many tokens while still retaining an empty shop.

Well that is what i read out of his post.

You're exactly right. Left it up for a few hours with everything selling for 100 mana + whatever they dropped in mana tokens on the tavern floor. Surprisingly enough, I got 8 individuals who figured out what I was implying and left fair price in mana tokens on the floor. The total value I got out of it was just over 1 billion mana, so it wasn't a complete loss.

But, as expected, someone did come and clean me out.

Awesome idea. It's kind of sad how we can pretty much predict human behavior. Especially among individuals in an online gaming community.

you have amazing faith in humanity to do such a thing. i'd at least set 100m minimums and ask for additional or something, just to prevent people from cleaning you out like that.

fun internet fact: it's easier for people to steal from you since you're "faceless."

I remember during the Valve holiday sale when they were giving out prizes (or coals which could be redeemed for prizes) for earning game achievements. At the same time there was a a humble bundle running that provided steam keys. Quite a few people went and bought hundreds of humble bundles for a penny each to get all the extra steam keys so they could get the games on new accounts and get more chances for prizes from the giveaway. Since there was a finite amount of prizes, not only did they take away chances from legitimate players, but they were also taking money from the Humble Bundle and the charities that they gave some of their profits to (since it costs them something like 20 cents per credit card transaction).

Anyways, will steal things worth real money when they can get away with it so don't be too surprised when they do something like this in a game.

Oh, so that's what happened with the steam Christmas sale. I heard something really nasty happened, but didn't know it was that terrible. Yeah, people are evil, that's all there is to it. Water flows to the lowest point, and so do people if they don't work to improve themselves.

The viewpoint I have ended up expecting when dealing with most afk shops is that people are willing to pay, it's how much they charge that is ridiculous.

I wasn't surprised that you got tokens for some or possibly most of your items. What I really wonder though is how many people listed those items in their shop for at least 3 times as much as they left in your shop?

People overcharge on so many items in their afk shops. They are willing to pay because they will turn around and sell the item for around 300 to 400% profit.

Yeah I went in there and grabbed a few things for my progression and to help me gear wise. Unfortunately I had no way of paying anywhere near the value of the items due to my inability to effectively make mana at this point, however I added the host to steam so that over time I can repay and/or give the items back when I've actually built up my mana making capacity. I actually dropped every bit of mana I had though. Even since grabbing the mythicals that I could wear (Don't have any 78+ chars yet) my mana farming ability has actually doubled. I can do Magus Quarters NMHC without as much difficulty as I had before up to wave 15-16 whereas before I was stuck losing at wave 11-12. So yeah either I'll pay back slowly over time or I'll give him the items back as I'm keeping them in a separate folder in my itembox.

Thanks again gigazelle!

i doubt he'd care overly much about people grabbing "a few" items

of course what "a few" means is in the eye of the beholder. and i don't think he intended it to be a donor thing, altho i think he actually expected it to be more of a social experiment really.

I should do this. I mean, I let hundreds of myth sell on the floor every day (and I'm sure some of you guys do too). Maybe I should fill my inventory of them one of these days and try it out.

This was a fantastic experience. I'm pleasantly surprised that so many people did the right thing before the bozo came in and mucked it up. Fantastic thread and story, gigazelle.
