How many characters do you use?

Bounty Hunter (portal gun, jetpack)

It may seem like a lot, but split screen uses up 4.

Rarely used/many only at lvl 74 (9):
EV (Tower)
Adept (Barrier)
Squire (Barricade)
Summoner (dps, for armor drops)
Ranger (jetpack)
Apprentice
Countess
Huntress
Barbarian

Plus a couple low level characters I'll delete for Jester. I wouldn't mind an extra page of characters.

All are 74+. Worked hard for my levels and gear. And by that, I mean AFK Insane HC Aquanos survival for XP, and do some Nightmare Hardcore Mixmode Mistymire for loot. Aquanos is nice, but the goldfish. :(

Tower: EV (waller/buff), squire (mitt skin for speed), trapper, aura monk, adept, summoner

Dps: monk, barb, countess, huntress, app (w/ genie for upgrades)

Farming: 2 monks (redshirt-1 and redshirt-2), and 2 summoners (thing-1 and thing-2). [2 wired controllers]

I have 11 chars, but don't use DPS huntress and Barbarian. There is really no place for these while multiplayer is unplayable :P

I have eleven characters, one for each class type.

Builders: :countess: :huntress: :adept: :initiate: :series:

DPS: :squire: :hunter: :apprentice: :monk: :barbarian:

And then Summoner, who inexplicably still doesn't have a smiley: builder.

I've leveled and at least decently geared all my builders, of course. I've leveled and geared only two of my DPS so far, the Monk and Barbarian. I'm going to build the other three DPS eventually, for the sake of variety. But as people said, with how long it takes to put together a proper set of armor - and considering my builders still need upgrades to be viable in the few stages I can't clear yet - those other DPS guys are likely to be on deck for the long-haul.

How many heroes do you use when you play Dungeon Defenders? Do you keep a DPS and a Tower build of each hero, or do you just stick with one type? Or do you only use one hero at all?

7 Tower:

Summoner
EV (buff beams and tower dps)

Auramaster
EV (waller)

2 dps and 6 ungeared:

I'll use any class except Initiate for dps.
One dps set has a genie, other set has a dps pet.

Another thing to note is I spread out the set armor type. I have one pristine, plate, mail, chain, and 2 leather tower sets. Loads better than making 5 tower characters all use the same type.

4 Tower builders, a Countess, Series EV, Summoner, and an in-training Aura Monk.

And a hybrid Traptress, because DPS huntress doesn't get enough love.

I have about 16 characters that are 74+, but I only use about 9 frequently:
Aura monk
Dps/buff monk
Trap huntress
Harpoon countess
Tower apprentice
Waller series EV
Buff beam series EV
Builder/active summoner
Dps Barb

The other characters consist of unused dps toons (squire, app, EV, ranger) no longer relevant builders (countess/adept waller), and an initiate that is hard to justify leveling when compared to the monk (aura set uses ultimate items).

I have considered making another summoner with mana pets for fast upgrading as well as repurposing the ranger into a gas trap only builder. Other than that, I think I have about all I need till the jester comes out.

I see People with Sommoner DPS. How do you set one of those up? Stats/Pets

Health, resists, flash heal, cast rate.

Basicly a summoner that won't get killed instantly when you have to drop out to collect mana, but still makes repairing easy
