Nexus 1 Posted July 2, 2012 So I put my tavern cellar project on hold to do this - A new Tavern. I will have it done and playable, and it should be released on the SteamWorkshop soon. The goal is to keep it looking as close to the original tavern as possible, but presenting a new layout. So it will have just about all of the same aesthetics and meshes as the old tavern. Same feel, but new look. The space in this picture here is the same amount of space as the original tavern but it isn't as much of a trick to navigate. Nexus 1 Posted July 2, 2012 Just a view from behind the bar so far : The walls wont be as barren as they are now. I'll be going over them with the same kind of wood trim like there is in the current tavern.
classic22 6 Posted July 2, 2012 People with talent like yourself make me so jealous. This. Hopefully this is something we can get for ranked as well. Great job OP, really impressed.
Nexus 1 Posted July 3, 2012 If it passes through the Beta teams desk and they approve it and maybe if enough people who play were to vote it in or something I could see it making it into ranked. I know a lot of people who would love to have a bigger tavern space to run around. This should hopefully be just big enough outside of the current tavern to slake that need. And that is a flattering notion, but having the tools and the imagination is how one builds "talent". Everyone has the capacity to do something like this, with enough free time to learn how to do it, and some imagination to it in the process.
Nexus 1 Posted July 3, 2012 Just a little update. Really fond of this spot I set up for the defenders forge.
Cure 0 Posted July 3, 2012 That's pretty sexy, although I need to say one thing about the current tavern. The trophy rooms is a little too open if you know what I mean. Besides that it's awesome, I really like what you did with the tavern.

Nexus 1 Posted July 3, 2012 Thanks! Yeah I know what you mean about the trophy room. That will be filled in a bit pretty soon. The middle of the room will have a fountain-podium for the big trophy and Shards DLC trophies to go onto.

MacPimpin 0 Posted July 3, 2012 Love it, I've always wanted more Taverns available to create a sense of unique identity, I always thought people should be able to Upgrade their taverns (change colors of tiles, floor patterns, etc, etc) Would such a thing be possible to make happen in this mod? (Just throwing out ideas) But either way looks great, especially interested in seeing the hero rooms! :)
Nexus 1 Posted July 3, 2012 Doing custom colors and stuff is definitely possible with the DDDK. It would require a good deal of scripting and some tweaking of the materials properties (Textures with Game Engine instructions) to handle color changes and the like. Technically almost anything can be dynamically changed in this particular game engine if the coding supports it. But that is a project for another time I think. Due to some secure Kismet properties being coded into the default LobbyLevel I just moved everything over to an empty equipment level template so it is now playable as a cooked level. But it isn't nearly done yet. Terrain will be going in tonight and be worked on throughout tomorrow. Final details and stuff should be done by friday some time and I will have it submitted by Tuesday nextweek for the Steamworkshop launch so everyone can download and check it out. Cure 0 Posted July 3, 2012 If I sound 100% insane with what I'm about to say just ignore me... It's been a long day and I got sick so I'm not really thinking. So I was thinking that we could do that same sort of thing that saints row 3 does. You can upgrade your tavern each time making it more luxurious and larger. classic22 6 Posted July 3, 2012 This is great news. Knowing nothing about the DDDK and how it works, can the old tavern be replaced with the new one so you don't have to load the map to be in the new tavern?
Nexus 1 Posted July 3, 2012 Unfortunately no, you can't replace the current tavern level with a new one. This is because there is a lot of the DLC content coded into the taverns scripting and for obvious reasons Trendy keeps that locked up nice and tight. As far as being able to upgrade the Tavern, that would be do-able too. But slightly pointless as there wouldn't be any sort of function to it. That is unless they were to say... add some mini-games in like a black jack game or pool or something of the sort. It would become more like the old Fable 1 taverns or the like. Also probably why Trendy hasn't implemented a new Tavern. Just not a lot to do with it unless like what I am doing adding some small explorable space around it and a few gimmicky physics to make that space fun. Like a back Deck thats going to double as a diving board into a non-deathly pond.
Alhanalem 62 Posted July 4, 2012 This is great news. Knowing nothing about the DDDK and how it works, can the old tavern be replaced with the new one so you don't have to load the map to be in the new tavern? This would require a TC.
classic22 6 Posted July 4, 2012 This would require a TC. I have no idea what that means :(
Nexus 1 Posted July 4, 2012 Total Conversion. Which steps outside the normal game parameters to work as a "separate" game inside a game.
Nexus 1 Posted July 4, 2012 Little progress update here : Starting to shape out nicely. The grass texture might get replaced with a different one, I'm still kinda iffy on that bright green. Second floor of the tavern will get windows and the like soon, and I may also make a better roof in 3DSMax if I get time later.
Koudspeel 0 Posted July 4, 2012 This looks promising! We definatly could use a bigger tavern than the one we have right now. It's simply too small and most new added trophies are just scatered everywhere on the tables and ground. I know this is a work in progress, but may I add that it'd be nice if you could put in the same detail like the original game has. Daniel Kami did a great job on that with his Palantir map. That's the kinda detail I'm talking about. In no way am I trying to mock off your map. Hell, I really appreciate your work, I wish that I could make something like this. I'm just giving you some.. erm.. something you might take into consideration. All in all, it looks amazing!
Nexus 1 Posted July 4, 2012 I did kings Valley. So not to worry about the detail, there will be a LOT more detail in the terrain and around the tavern. But I am also trying to keep within the simplicity of the old tavern to avoid issues with lag and the like.
Nexus 1 Posted July 7, 2012 Some new screenshots here : IMAGES REMOVED: UPDATED Trophy room is just about done. Some small details to tweak yet. Lighting isn't final. Experiencing some odd slow down in some parts of the map before and after building lighting in game as well as the DDDK. Third floor details will be going in soon as well. Also I am just curious about how many people would really like to see a new tavern, so I will start a poll in the modding discussion section. Nexus 1 Posted July 14, 2012 I hope everyone is ready to play around in the new tavern. I should have it done some time this evening. I would have had it done earlier in the week but some troublesome errors forced me to redo the whole thing. Which is okay though! It's looking way better now. Jaz 0 Posted July 15, 2012 Awesome. Just found this. Looking forward to playing it. Good work. :)
