Why do you like Dungeon Defenders?

Recommended Posts

I like Dungeon Defenders, because

1) I enjoy playing strategy games with RPG elements.

2) I enjoy COOP games.

3) my friends enjoy COOP games.

4) Its a great gaming value aka replay value. (Hours of fun at a reasonable price.)

5) Its not sugar-coated or watered down.

and those are just off the top, I can probably list 20 more reasons with some thought. :)

I enjoy being able to fine tune my build for a level in order to pass.

The difficulty of nightmare, and that NM is possible to beat.

The different possible setups.

What I don't like...

Negative generic resists. frustrates me so much when I beat Misty NMHCMM survival, andd don't find a single good piece of DPS armor because the RNG only drops 100^ pieces, and most of the enchanted armor has neg generic resist.

There's probably more, but I can't think right now. Confounded migraines.

I've always liked tower defence games, but never before played any multiplayer games. Tower defence aspect got me in the game and once in it I found all other interesting aspects of the game. The most addictive part is working as a team to complete a challenge. Although finding players even remotely on the same level from public games is often very hard (nightmare difficulty has way too wide range of difficulty inside it). I've liked the fact that progressing throught the game has many interesting phases, playing with different characters. At first playing with several builders, then realizing you need a dps char, then try some different dps chars. Then comes the EV making beating survivals much easier and then comes the summoner eventually making it maybe even a bit too easy to beat mixmode survivals. Now that I have beaten all maps on mixmode survival, I'm not sure if there is anything left to do in the game. There is really no need to grind for better gear, since you don't need more than some 2,5-3k stats to beat everything.
But the most important thing that has always brought me back to this game is how much the real life sucks ;)
The reason I'm writing this thing instead of playing the game is because I have been separeted from my computer and working on linux only environment...

I like the fact it's a fun alternative to a lot of recent Multiplayer games being mostly shooters. It offers a continuous challenge (at least to the point I'm at). I like the character designs, as well as the music (nice variety for both). And it feeds my OCD.

Negatives would be the RNG can be very unforgiving (still trying to get a pair of decent boots for my Monk after a couple of days worth of playtime), and some aspects need fine tuning.

DunDef has definitely become an addiction for me. Prior to it, i rarely ventured outside the world of FPS games since I became addicted to Medal of Honor - Allied Assault. Many of my close friends are devoted RTS players, but I refused to be sucked in (mostly because I suck at it). During the WarCraft 3 + DOTA phase I was introduced to TD based games and found them to be much more enjoyable to my playing style, but not enough to pull me away from the run 'n gun. One night on a November's eve, on an impromptu WAN party sparked a discussion of multiplayer games that would span all of our playing styles; and thus DunDef was discovered. Since that began I've been hopelessly in love with this game. Most of my friends play occasionally still, but i remain faithful.

One quality that has stood out among all others is the way the Developers and employees reach out to the community. I've never been a part of something where Developers actually answered questions. Of course, I've not played too many games like this so my scope is rather narrow, but I am impressed nonetheless. The constant stream of updates has me baffled and amazed. Before this game I never imagined a costume I voted for would ever be turned into a skin.

Trendy, I may not always be playing DunDef (especially if you release a new/better game), but I want you to know that I will never forget the hours we've spent together. You opened my eyes to games outside the hum-drum of big-budget monotony.

Much <3

P.S. - My one request of the developers would be to add names to the faces of the pictures in the secret room. I want to know who are the mega dorks and who that one attractive girl is.

I like Gauntlet style games. Which actually makes me wish there was a map pack where it was an entire level's worth of assault. Not a reused map from another mode, but an entire level.
I'd probably use the building aspect of the game more if I could find gear worth a salt.

The challenge of the game just keeps me coming back the most. Nightmare was just nuts when I fired up The Deeper Well and got rofled. A few tweaks here and there and the fun just started pouring back in. Getting Hardcore Mythical Defender felt like a RL achievement imo.. May sound odd but I was actually giddy when it flashed on my screen months ago. Now for the Transcendent Survivalist Achievement.. >.>

The community is a big plus to an already AAA+ game. I can pick up a $60.00 game and be done with it in 50ish hours and have every achievement, character and whatever else it has to offer. At 600 hours in DD and still have a few more challenges to complete and characters to level/master. You can't beat user created maps coming to the game also!

I like all the different parts (i.e. artwork, music, gameplay, genre, story, etc.). Together for me they are greater than the sum of the parts. For me I know I will always spend some time playing (as long as the servers are up that is) - no matter what is currently out.

Also the devs and community are the best out there.

Friend showed me DD, i have loved it ever since.

I think there is way to much change in the game. On the PC side.
-hard to keep up with what is going on

Console went off the deep end long time ago
(not gonna go there)

I like the new characters.

I really hope TE learned from the first game and takes that and makes a really good sequel. They keep many things and change many things as well. More balanced across all platforms. Great community since its a team game.

I think TE should concentrate on making a fun game still and not frustrating. (COD and FPS)
-Fun as in the waves and progression is not hard to do. Yet getting good loot and items is difficult..
-As in make it where you have to play easy to get to medium, medium to get to hard and so on....

Balance out the leveling more.
-More difficult to get to 70

Really for the first game. It is going very well. I would really like to see what DD can do on PS vita and the Wii U. I think that will take DD to a whole new level if they make DD for Wii U or the sequel for PS vita.

Thank you TE :)
(i dont think i went longer then 48 hours in the past 6 months not on this forum) So thank you community as well.

For me The PC is Amazing love everything about it :)

but right now the only thing that keeps me playing on the console are the events because the game itself gets boring when you have to spend endless hours to be able to use the best loot.

Weapons might be AMAZING but you have to spend so much time getting to the level it requires that it doesnt make it interesting. The only fun in this is assault with three friends and the weekly events :)

I like the blend. I typically play a dps because a builder loses most of its excitement after a while. I Hate the lag on some maps. example I played the event on volcanic eruption we beat it cause of our pets... The lag was terrible and it can lag on the map as well. also I was a huge fan of warcraft 3 tds esspecially the ones with heros

Three major points why I quit:
1) Grind: finding new loot is ok (though loot-system is meh) but getting billions to upgrade is not
2) Punishing for multiplayer: I like playing with others but maps getting longer/harder isn't cool. For example I had issues doing warping cores until I just went solo.
3) Easiness of hacking: Not really the hackers but how it affected the community. Hard to know what's legit, etc.

On positive side, the game is still super fun and I occasionally play it until grind gets me (like start new toon).

There is really 1 reason why I like Dungeon Defenders, and that would be that it combined Tower Defense (TD) and Hero Defense (HD) style maps from Warcraft 3 which I loved and played for many year from The Frozen Throne Release till the TD and HD community mostly dissolved in 2010-ish.

What I like:

1. It's easy to see. I am legally blind and I can still play this game. Obviously i do have some vision and can squint up close for things like sorting gear, but overall I like the large well defined graphics that make it possible for me to play this game.

2. It's fun to play, duh! I like stratgey games and I like killing stuff, it's a good mix. I have been playing since mid-November and the game still holds my interest well. There are a plenty of milestones and goas for me to still reach. I play mostly solo and I have always been good at things that require a bit of a grind to advance.

3. These Forums. This thread. The support and feedback of the developers and the playing community. Being informed, helpful, annoyed, or annoying as the situation dictates. :)

What I don't like:

1. It's hard to see. The stuff that makes it harder to see REALLY makes it harder to see, that's for everyone, and appears to be an inteded feature.

2. Loot. By far the most tedious part of the game, even more than grinding out levels or mana, is dealing with the finding/sorting/swapping of loot.
a: Finding. Since it's not possible to tell when a decent item drops, I take a shotgun approach and grab everything and go thru it later. If fighting in a fire trap (OMF) I end up with pages of useless weapons. (see above)
b: Sorting. There is none. It all has to be done manually and is extremely tedious.
c: Swapping. To swap gear or pets between characters at the forge or in the Tavern you have to swap to that character. This seems unnecessarily cumbersome, particuarlly in the Tavern.

I never liked tower defense games but I played dun def on IOS and loved it prior to release on PC and Xbox. The mix between an action rpg and tower defense is awesome. The feel of the game's controls are fluid on a keyboard and game pad. I loved being able to witness the game evolve from launch to the present. The support given to the community by the Trendy team has more than exceeded my expectations and has put to shame alot of the major companies customer service.

The only Con I can mention would be the lack to effectively keep the game clean from Impure items being introduced from outside sources.
