Question about NM player damage.

Recommended Posts

I know that player damage is greatly reduced in NM, but I was curious what higher end NM player damage should look like. I've got a 19732 damage Skullbow and 750 player attack right now and deal 14,604 to the dummy in Deep Well, which I imagine has to be very low end for a NM DPS character. What kind of numbers should I be shooting for with my characters on this dummy before I start trying to join people's NM games without weighing them down?

Get a good pet. Up your player attack and resists, and make sure towers are repaired. That's all you need to not weigh anyone down.

Or roll a monk.

Yeah, I'm working up my player attack and HP right now; my resists are already as high as I can get them. I'm just curious what kind of damage I should be looking for against the dummy to be making a meaningful contribution in NM mode.

Your resists are probably at the soft cap of 30 (i think) pre set bonus. Keep in mind every 10 levels you can upgrade a resist further, if all of your armor has 41% in a given resist (after set bonus) it will be 90% in Nightmare

For a huntress, thats pretty decent. My bow has 20.2k damage and with 1800HD I still cant break 20k per shot:ogre: (19,710)

So long as you can survive, she will be helpful. Especially for the initial upgrading period as huntress + genie = infinite mana. Just dont expect to do as much damage (pet or hero) as most other characters as her damage scaling is very poor. Use her to clear gassed mobs, control stray spiders, stop wyverns etc. instead of killing ogres like a monk/squire/barb b/c she wont be ouputting enough damage normally (you can assist on ogres, but dont expect to be killing the ones in the shards on your own).

EDIT
Definetely get the bonus res points, focusing on generic to 41% first.

Honestly your weapon can be as powerful as you want but from my experience it's better to have a good pet than bother with weapon damage.

Ogre slaying is exactly what I hoping to do. XD It's fine though, I have my barbarian as well, and I will use him to smash things. >:D

I'm going to start looking for better weapons now, as my barb needs a decent second weapon. What kind of weapon should I be looking for, and what kind of damage should I be outputting? I have a hyperclaymore with around 200 ups on right now and a junk second weapon that needs replacement; I've heard demon swords are an ideal balance of damage, range, and speed.

I'm also going to upgrade my skullbow to something else, but I'm not sure if I should get a sandbow, genie lamp, depth charge, or everflame. I've been told the lamp has a high damage gain per level, fires three shots, and is piercing, so it seems like the best choice if I haven't been mislead. :o

And thank you all for the advice so far, it's really appreciated. I didn't know I could get my armor values over 30, so I am still increasing that, and I'm going to try to find a monkey pet later. Or a seahorse, because their face is hilarious. :)

Just look for Shards Specific weps as they often spawn overcapped in stats (I have a squire wep with ~500 all stats and 300 or so upgrades)

Magic Lamp is definetely top of my list for huntress weapons. It pierces and fires 3 missiles, but drops 1 sps on the skullbow IIRC. Its hellishly boring to farm though, so I've never been able to make myself get one -.-

For the barb weapon, I find the tooth looking weapon from aquanos to be very good, if you can get them. They normally come fairly large, have a decent swing speed, and arent too bad for damage either (IIRC its about 110 per up). B/c they are a shards specific weapon, they have about twice the stats of your average weapon too :D

If you cant do aquanos, anything that's slower than a lightsaber/sabre is good for both auto attacking and hawk, although I wouldnt recommend hammers... (I find them a little too slow)

which weapons are shards specific and how do you get them? I've ran misty lots of types as a squire and never found a weapon with 500 in stats..

The Tooth weps are 101 per upgrade.. Thats my supreme one :p

Bug Bows / Leaf Blower from misty and the like, although you gotta like the attack type, a good leaf blower is pretty substantial dmg to ogres.

I actually started playing my huntress again and realised im using a magic lamp myself (241^) and its pretty impressive, good upgrade per point means quite a high Generic dmg = higher PS's, which again is good for ogres, uber death from above reward, its just a pain as it takes me ~40mins per run (unless they changed it recently?)

I hear good things about the Riddle reward too.

Edit: Its good to have some weps with very high stats so I can just equip my builder with a pet/wepaon and he is instant Hybrid

Hunter: Everflame can do 5m+ DPS and has infinite pierce (including walls). Limited by range, but max range is outside ogre attack range.

Barb: Hyperclaymore is good. Demon sword also. At least 240 ups, and high base.

Is that NM Everflame DPS?

What constitutes a high base value for barb weapons?

Edit: So, I attempted to solo NMHC Misty survival, and though I was unsuccessful in completing it, I did manage to get a Choppa with 240^, 2034 base damage, 222 hero health, and 198 hero attack. The negatives on it are for tower stats, but since this is going on my barb it shouldn't matter too much. Is this an okay weapon to level or should I sell it and try another Misty run later?

Nah, tavern, so just shy of 1m tavern in NM. Although that's a 280^ and 2200 hero damage, so you can probably work it higher with better equipment. At some point, though, pets and towers are doing the vast majority of your damage, and the weapon is really just for fun.

3-4k is a decent base for any sword's starting damage. (katanas and iceswords aside, but you don't want them anyway). Plus, weapons are comparatively cheap to up, and you can always export to open to play around. But yeah, I tend to look for size first, then ups, then base, then colour.

Size dependent, that souds like an OK weapon (just check that the damage/^ is over 100) to start with (Quite a bit better than mine used to be :D)

But as Zing said, weapon damage is largely unimportant now (although barbs hawk can still hit pretty damm hard). Focus on the pet. I havent even bothered to up the damage on my monks weapon, its just a boost stick so my pet can deal even more :D

Well, it's a pretty big choppa, so I'm going to use it. :)

But now I have another question: I bought a monkey with 3215 attack, but he is hitting the tavern dummy for 19,565 damage. Is something wrong with this monkey, or does my player attack stat boost its damage?

Any pet with the mythical/transcendent/supreme tag (and heroic, which appears on animuses) will scale with your hero damage stat. Thats why boost monks are so good atm, b/c their HD has a much higher multiplier than any other hero and hero boost gives the strongest boost on top of that...

"heroic" appears on any damage godly and above. One of my best monkeys is a 240 heroic (not even myth). Usable at level 70 (or maybe 60, I forget)

Wep damage work best on boost, app can deal 600k dps without any help. Go for booster monk, hp+resist+good pet = gg.

Okay, I've got my chopper and hyperclaymore, a monkey pet, and good resists. I am ready to begin my NM DPS journey. >:D

Thanks again, everyone. ^_^ /

EDIT: Another question came to me. XD
If I'm playing in survival mode and I have a second person join me, do the monster get stronger or just more numerous?
