Story after the 4 Shards?

Currently we are in part 3.
Part 4 is coming soon, dont know when exactly.

But...what happens after this?
Is there a plan for further content, or will the game end then?
I would think Trendy has ideas to bring in more story, like the search for the Parents or something like that...
what do you think?

Why not special characters of the parents? I'd rather have the character than a costume.

I would say they let the game settle for a while, i mean take a look at every game with DLC, they dont do anything for a few months after all the DLC is released and then the next game will come out..

Dungeon defenders 2 would be a good idea because they can put all these maps + everything else in 1 ghame and add tons of new content and maybe price there game @ $30 which would be really good.

No please....I'd rather not have to buy and redl the/another game again (even though it'll be a "new" version of the game). I'd rather pay for another DLC pack that extends the game storyline/content.

being each shard is hung in the tavern beneath a picture of a parent my guess is the parents were involved in the shards to begin with... i suspect it will be the kids vs the parents in a final battle..

will they drop DD afterwards? no.. not YET>. they still have yet to release the jester which has been in the character select que since day one.. yet to be unlocked. so we know at least THAT is comming out.

theres the map contest.. when that finishes they will debug and tweak that map and release it.

as for any more.. "expansions".. my guess is they are getting burnt out on coding for dundef.
they still have to finalize and release it for the ps3 and xbox.. as well as the yet unreleased vita version.

by the time thats all said and done.. i suspect a trendy vacation for the staff.. followed by a new project.
but im guessing fall/winter for that.

creating DD2 would be negative support, look at all these other games where they bring out the 2. version and the 1. version is still bugged as hell or not finished.
Also there is no reason for DDO to bring a second game, because TE is good at what they are doing with the first game.

Those are some theories you have there (not saying that they're impossible). But why make a dundef 2 when you could just expand the current game?
Also (if I understood correctly), you have the jester as an option in the character creation menu? I don't. It is still an unconfirmed idea and even though I have a good feeling about her being released. It's still unsure. Although, I really hope so.

Agreed. I feel like Trendy is doing well with DD now (obviously some will disagree).

You know, if you look at the schedule they have for new hero releases, you will end up figuring that they release a new hero sometime after each shard quest is released, in other words:
-mistymire forest, shortly after you get the barbarian dlc;
-moraggo desert, then comes the series EV;
-aquanos, we just got the summoner;
-skycity or w/e its called, voilwe finally get the jester or whatever is the new planned class (it's subject to change afterall).

As my opinion to what happens next after the 4th shard map, is most likely a final boss side content, probably that one crystal we see in one of the trailers with the adult/grownup heroes.

Then... if DD isn't done yet, we might get some new DLC related to the adult/grown up heroes, perhaps one that shows their own campaign, as i'm pretty sure they didn't defend the same areas as we did nor did they fight the same bosses as we did.
Either that or they plan a new game title for that, and the game would likely not be rated for kids anymore.

I am assuming he is refering to the crystal realm with the parents seen at the end of the shards trailer/part 1 trailer - If you look carefully there seem to be a lot of paths heading up to where the parents are, and as it is ingame graphics, why make that if it isn't ending up as a map ultimately?

What I found funny that I didn't notice until after Misty was out, the map actually appears in the original DD trailer, despite being a shards map :D

Also, can't be bothered to look for a link cause it was a while ago but I'm sure one of the trendy staff hinted at a boss battle royale after all the bosses are out, as others have said above :)

its why they have been in the wiki since the game came out.. long before the forums officialy made a mention of them.

and yes.. the shards maps have been in the trailer since launch.. becuase they have been working on them that long.
as well as the dlc heroes.

NONE of this is.. spur of the moment creation out of the blue.. well save for costumes and the holiday stuff.

as for WHY they would move onto another project? same reason why any dev moves on... same reason why we players take breaks from the game from time to time.. they get burnt out doing the same thing for so long... and need a change.. the chance to do something new.. and make a fresh approach.

I can see Trendy starting an entirely different game later on, but I meant why make a second Dungeon Defenders when you could just add a DLC which could extend the storyline. There is a possiblity even that they will make a "second game" but you need to have DunDef 1 in order to activate it. I guess we'll never really know since it's possible for Trendy to start a complete different style of art and story that is targeted to, let say, older audiences but still use the same idea/story (not that I don't like the artwork now.)

i can remember the silouettes of Barb and EV, but not the Jester.
Another campaign with the Parents would be great.
