Issues holding back a great game. Urza takes a leave of absence.

I am taking an extended vacation from Dungeon Defenders. I will still be available to finish auctions and whatnots and I plan to return someday if these issues below are addressed or at least some decent progress is made. Want to start by saying that the moderators and community managers have been great and DD has sucked me in for quite some time. To all my friends and clanmembers I say I am not quitting but u wont see me for a long time in game or on forums. I want to make clear that the number one reason is Diablo 3. That is pulling me away but for me to come back significant progress needs to be made on these issues below. The nightmare difficulty being in beta does not have anything to do with alot of these issues.

1. Hacking. This is still so outta control its to the point of watching a Seinfeld episode even with all my efforts, others efforts, and TE efforts.

2. The trade bug. This is hitting me several times a week now and has been around for ages. How can we have faith in a game that cant get trades to work reliably? See post --> http://forums.trendyent.com/showthread.php?61732-WARNING-to-traders!-The-trade-bug-is-back-with-a-vengeance.

3. Not having the lock tavern drops option. How many times do we have to ask for this? I wake up and come home from work and I have items scattered all over my tavern messing up my auction placement. Some ppl even go so far as to drop items named slurs and some even drop huge hacked items.

4. Not having the lock tavern build option. How many times do we have to ask for this as well. I wake up or come home from work and entire tavern has bowling ballz with buff beams prolly melting my cpu for 8 hours. We have asked for this for ages.

5. Enemy pathing. The AI pathing in this game leaves something to be desired to say the least.

6. Bugged mobs. Mobs getting to unreachable areas, mobs glitched in terrain, mobs passing through walls, ect.

7. Broken Economy: This has alot related to number 1 but its also a byproduct of the inflated mana worths and high numbers to begin with. I can sell all day at work afk and get to 2b mana and then spend it on a handful of upgrades for a already high upgraded pet. The way the numbers are stored they cant increase the 2b cap either. They are left with a system in which we the players have to invent our own system (tokens) to bypass their broken one. I absolutely dread what new players must feel in this system. Must be nightmare for them.

8. Real money stores. I still see these in games section (not so much in shop) that have a name that is so obvious they should get instantly banned by any moderator or gm yet I see them up for 8 hours. Why is it we have to report these ppl to get them banned when the name of game is Buy 2b MANA for 1 USD?

9. Scaling issues and hidden stats. Why does damage keep scaling and range does not (at least for aura it is so bad it seems like it doesnt)? Why do you let us make mistakes by pumping points in speed past 100? Why cant we at least respec armor?
A) Did you know that the scaling from 2k monk aura to 3k monk aura range is like 1 inch. Seriously go ask Rawflewaffle. Makes you wonder what else is virtually capped.
B) Did you know speed past 100 does nothing?
C) Did you know that heroic pet generic damage scales with your hero dps stat but the pets elemental does not? Same with players weaps except some semi secret mage staffs. Seems useless to allow ppl to mess up in this way.
D) What other caps exist we prolly dont even know of?

What things do you guys want to see fixed? I am sure I missed some.

1) Particle effects on flame traps are too much - codnan3
2) Enchanted items dropping with negative physical resist - Malibu Stacey
3) Advertisement spam. Once is enough not every time we want to play. - Malibu Stacey
4) Higher Difficulty makes more stat rollovers to negatives - Malibu Stacey.

Just want to point out one thing.

Moderators have zero control on the game. We can't ban hackers on TrendyNet. Only TE can do that.

I also agree taverns should be locked from both building and dropping weapons. Why this hasn't been included is beyond me, especially with AFK shops.

what I don't understand is why Trendy don't just search shops more often... the sellers aren't even trying to hide. Just check the title then ban them

Know how many times I've been impacted by cheaters and hacked gear? Zero. I choose not to play with them, just like I choose not to play with undergeared/underleveled players.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for this to be fixed: as long as games are hosted by the players instead of a secure TE controlled server, this will never be resolved.

Cheating ruined Diablo I. You know, that game where you can get apps to instantly PK someone, crash people out of the game, or make yourself invincible. Duping your buddy's Godly Plate of the Whale is minor in comparison (and easy to do without 3rd party apps, no matter how many times they've claimed to have fixed it).

The cost of upgrading your pet has nothing to do with inflation. Not disagreeing about the insane cost of upgrading on high end items, but it has nothing to do with the point you're trying to make.

New players aren't affected by any of this because they aren't generating mana at a fast enough rate to be impacted by either mana cap. They should be spending their mana pretty much as they earn it, once they get their first mythic set. If their one character is maxed out on upgrades, they should be making additional characters. I'm not new by any stretch of the imagination and I've still got plenty of places to spend my mana.

Diablo II also has a gold cap, but I've never heard anyone complain about it on a serious level. Remember when SoJs were used for large purchases? Good times. Now that the old gambled SoJs have been effectively cleaned out of the Realm servers, people use runes as currency. Sometimes it's easier to trade a single item than it is to type out all of those zeros. Gold isn't valueless either: it's still the only way to gamble.

Banning people based on filters is only going to make things worse. It will either catch innocent players or it will just make the offending players change their tactics. Look at how well it worked at curbing spam (read: it didn't; the better spam filters look at things other than the words being said). It's actually healthier for the community to do nothing than to implement a kludgey fix.

Let's be honest here: other than the trade bug, all of the things you've listed are incredibly minor in the grand scheme of things.

How does selling things for real money hurt this game?

I mean, a lot of games let doing this...

if you want to find flaws, you will find them.

1. How can it ruin your game? Play with friends, or host your own game, and kick the ones with suspicious gear.

2. Can't say anything about that, never experienced it myself. Sucks if it does happen, but it's not a "holding a great game back" flaw.

3 and 4. Might be annoying, but it's a minor thing. Have you run out of things to justify your sudden hatred?

5. True, but I've never thought that it was a deal breaker. Bad AI is pretty common.

6. There is an auto kill function. Is it annoying to wait? Yes. Does it ruin my game? No.

7. I have a friend who just got into this game, he was confused about there being a limit, but the idea of a "token" to bypass that limit seemed only natural to him. I would not call it a a hell. You can easily get 100 million each round from any of the shard maps (with a bit of start wave looting), upgrading your pet once per round isn't impossible.

8. We are in the nit picking apartment again. How does this "hold back a great game". How can this even matter to you one bit? I don't understand. While I don't approve of it, it's not a game breaking experience, to see that someone is selling gear for money.

9. While stupid, with a bit of experience you will find out about the different stats. Actually, I can't count the amount of RPG's I've played, that have had different skills, that weren't useful to upgrade.

I think what you are trying to do, is justify your leave of absence. Not only that, but you are also writing your headline in 3rd person, as if you where some great superstar. "What things do you guys want to see fixed? I am sure I missed some.", you imply that there are many other flaws that holds the game back, and you want others to jump on the hate-wagon.

1. can be ignored if you only play with friends and farm gear yourself
2. is absolutely awful and should be fixed asap
3. and 4. are annoying and can really mess up people like you who open a shop regularly
the rest is really only minor problems imho. some things are already being worked on like enemy pathing and stuck enemies.
real money stores don't affect you at all because you don't need to buy there and seriously people who do aren't the ones I would like to have as friends.
economy is fine and works really good imho. even if the cap was raised even more people would need tokens again when they reach the new limit.
the scaling issues you mention are only minor and most of it you know within a week of playing. of course auras dont scale as good with range because otherwise they would be super unbalanced after a certain point, when you can cover half the map with auras...

And with the list of issues you just made, even though it would be nice to have these fixed, it will either be a VERY LONG time til you come back or probably never.

Hackers, not much of a problem, I just kick them. But most of your point is true even though it doesn't affect me that much. I just farmed and farmed and do it again when I'm bankrupt. There is one problem I see:

1. Dominant Defense Boost - it seems that its not working that properly... I always notice this in shipwreck where I can boost all the harpoon towers (they're all close together). I can boost them up to 261k but when someone activates their boost, I can see some hovering 220k.

That's really a shame, Urza. I have very limited contact with players other than these forums. After you sold me a few items, you became one of my favorite players, and I've never even played with you! You make good posts, and I use them to judge my own opinions. I really hope you come back.

I'm the leader of the guild Urza is in, I just wanted to give a shout out to the players in DD who know Urza. He dedicated a lot of time to his forum posts and making shops / events to players. In doing all that, its become frustrating to him to see his tavern have many items thrown around saying "Urza sucks" "Hacker" "Suck a ****".

I've also seen many hackers around the game, but its hard to tell unless you view every person you play with and I know dealing with hackers has plagued almost every multiplayer game going all the way back to Quake.

To all the Dev's and Moderators, Thanks for dealing with everyone in this community and making a great game. I know your work isn't easy and its always nice to hear a few people say "thank you"

Now for my clan shoutout - If you're looking a laid back multi-gaming casual community then you join should [FeC]. We play Realm of the Mad God, League of Legends, Team Fortress 2, Minecraft, Killing Floor, Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, World of Tanks, Total War: Shogun 2, Nuclear Dawn, Dungeon Defenders (Although Urza just quit, not many still play)

For all those players that posted stupid posts or "I don't care if you leave posts", Maybe you should leave DD also, since you obviously don't know a good player who was very helpful and great for the community, go back to playing your CS:S kids.

I don't think trendy are doing anything about hackers to be honest. How hard is it to stop the use of the hacking program everybody uses, these people arnt actually hacking anything its more like an action replay program and trendy don't seem to be making any effort to stop them.

Also the particle effects on flame trap..........so many complaints and not a word from trendy, surely they can spare 5 mins to at least comment on the subject

Can you read beyond a single sentence? The issue is he's being drawn to what is likely going to be a far more polished game. He would be drawn back if Trendy polished the game more.

Actually I have 3.

The economy is broken Cymmina. Everyone knows it.

I think ppl may be taking my thread as a quit thread. I am not quitting just a vacation. If progress is made then I will be back. All the issues added up make a major issue. The ones that really irked me were indeed 1 through 4. With 3 in particular lately. Whoever was constantly dropping my tavern to full items (some huge hacked ones) and messing up my auctions and dropping slur items congrats you helped drive me to a vacation.

If you were that hyped for Diablo 3, you were probably taking a 'vacation' for it regardless of what Dungeon Defenders did, seeing as how Trendy can't even compare to Blizzard for money and manpower to spend on a video game and we both know it.

I don't really care about most of what you said, it just irks me when people try to use 'Imma go play a $60 big-name video game because my one-time-fee $3 video game (What many of us have gotten it for with sales) couldn't keep up.' Rant and whine all you want. Just leave video games Trendy can't physically keep up with out of it. If you're going to compare it to something, at least compare it to something with a similar budget that you might have actually been affected from messing with.

Hell, if i said i was leaving to play LoL over dungeon defenders, the budget wouldnt even come into it.. the point is, hes leaving the game because of numerous issues that have caused him (and many others like him) to become fed up with the game.. myself, im not necessarily leaving, but im not playing anywhere near as much as i used to (used to hit well over 100 hours every 2 weeks, now im maybe 20, and thats just checking shops here and there.. ) the eternia shards and new heroes bring me back each time, but for increasingly less and less time each time i do come back.. the errors and glitches that are present (especially the trade bug, and the stuck mobs), have been present for quite some time, and when they cause you to lose hours of work.. its frustrating.

anyways, my rant is over, I'd like to thank urza for the help hes given, and say i hope to see you around, whether its in D3, DD, or some other game.. take care.

That's all fine and dandy. Like I said, none of that bothers me. It was only that he tried to bring Diablo 3 into the rant like it mattered.
