Gear progression suggestions

Recommended Posts

Soon, I will be making a thread devoted to revisions of gear progression.
The thread will be a poll, a poll that will reflect what is voiced here.
Please, voice your opinions and suggestions about gear progression here, so that a higher cause may be served.
Also, try to keep the bickering to a minimum. This is not a thread geared at sparking debate or controversy. I merely wish to gather a consensus of what the player base desires, then present it to Trendy in the form of a poll. A poll I dearly hope they take seriously.

As OP, I will lay my own suggestions on the table for analysis and criticism.
1) Dump all gear below godly. After that, move each tier of gear down to replace the old max tier of gear, (i.e. godly, myth, trans, supreme) then make the old max tier the new common drop in nightmare mode.

2) Implement a reward system that provides some kind of global currency. Perhaps the currency can even be traded, that is beside the point though. The currency could be used to purchase entry level items of the current max tier. As of 7.33, Supreme is the current max tier. A set amount of these tokens could be used to purchase gear adequate to challenge wave 20+ on any NM shard map. Wave 20 is not particularly difficult to reach, however, once there the difficulty is increased dramatically. Grinding through wave 1-20 would not be so mundane and depressing if it were serving to advance players. Even the original maps are doable with ~2k stats; why not reward players for completing these maps? A token for completing the map; the player has gone through the basics and mastered the original maps. A reward is in order no? A token would do just this, provide players with a clear path through gear progression, while also providing experience with builds on NM maps. Perhaps on the newest maps or mix mode the token could be doubled in reward quantity. Risk - reward!

3) Need feedback from the Dungeon Defenders community.

I don't know when you started playing, but I started before Shards, and literally spend 100+ hours farming godly in the OLD (6,000+ per wave Solo) Survival. All this for gear where if ONE stat was above 40-50, it was insane. Then they introduced Myth, and in one wave of ES I could get gear that was 4x as good. Talk about a buzz kill.

Godly may mean nothing now, but it has meant a lot to a lot of us.

I am tired of new people complaining about progression. Put some effort in. Just because you get power leveled to 74 doesn't mean you are ready for Nightmare. Nightmare is made to be Nightmare. It's hard, Period. If you can't handle nightmare, do insane survival (short survival that caps at around 2000 and doesn't take 6-8 hours) and you can still get Trans now.

I truly appreciate your feedback, I do.
But easy - insane is trivial.
Perhaps I should clarify that this argument is aimed at NM progression, and those stuck in between 2k and 3k.
I honestly applaud your devotion and seniority to DD and Trendy.
However, not all of us were lucky enough to have started at the beginning.
I did not get power leveled to 74. I began playing shortly after shards pack 2 was released.
I also began working my way up through the ranks, proudly sporting my squire and brazenly crashing against wave 1-15 of nightmare mode. As my stats grew, I noticed that no matter how much time and effort I poured into this game, I could never catch up to those who had already conquered NM.
I am not trying to minimize your time invested, or seniority in the DD community, but there is a disparity between those who already have adequate gear, and those who need it.

If you need spmething then work for it and spend the hours we did to get that level / if you are being honest here then post your SID and let us check ur hours/DD and compare it to those you mentioned they mastered NM and here is your answer .

I completely understand. Not trying to be Hostile or Elitist. I was an "early" player, but had almost no multiplayer experience when Shards came out. I also lagged behind initially. People want to say early NM was easy (only spiders) but between Tower Buffs, player Buffs, and Mob Nerfs I find new NM easier. Yes, I know certain aspects (wave one ES ogres) are harder.

Even now, I am a player in the 2k area, not the elite 3kish. I got stuck badly in the 600-1k range (early-mid) Myth of tower gear. Everyone does. Eventually, through forum guides and other things, the lightbulb came on for me. I jumped to the 1800-2k range quickly. It wasn't the game getting easier, it was me getting smarter/better. Despite sharken, the oppertunities to get better IMO are better than ever. It's doable I promise.

I am stuck again in the 2k area. I lose consistently in early 20's (20-23) Aquanos, Misty. etc. I use Kandar's builds, but I don't make 30. I still get better gear. I get better. It's a grind.

I'm with you on most of this, but hours /= effort. Especially considering AFK Shops. If anything, I hope my real friends know my hours are AFK shop, because otherwise it get embarrassing

Of course!
The SID for my farming account is Ysonoko.
I have a separate account, of which I use for my afk shop and auxiliary storage; that account is Ysonokosan.
Mind you, the afk shop is only active when my bank gets full, and my mana on hand is low.
The second account is more of a guest account, I have family and friends that use it periodically.
It functions as a mule account really.

Sounds like you an I are in the same boat. My max wave on misty NMCH (mm or not) is wave 23.
I can build Aquanos to the boss phase, then I need rely on other players to subdue the boss.
My builds seems to hold up fine on most any map; not to gloat but I am something of a tactician.
The fault does not lay in my build, or other variables, but in my inability to acquire adequate gear to
sufficiently address wave 20+ shards pack maps.
I love RNG, it is the basis on which all modern games are based. However, there comes a point where even
RNG needs structure. Both options 1, and 2 that I listed above address this issue.
I look to my peers and fellow gamers for options I am unable to see, or have overlooked.
