Galathox 0 Posted April 17, 2012 Upon reaching a certain level, be allowed to choose to specialize further into your class. IE the apprentice class goes to something beyond just being an apprentice (like maybe finally become a wizard). This will unlock more abilities (based on which class tree you take) and possibly other things? It will open up more customization and more unique builds as well. You could have it so one tree goes towards specializing in tower and one tree goes towards specializing in hero attacks. I don't know if something like this has already been discussed, it probably has because there are so many games where you get job advancements and such. metaphone 0 Posted April 18, 2012 Like that idea! Maybe something like builder/dps branches for App/Squire/Hunt/Monk and protection/damage branches for barbarian.
Draken693 0 Posted April 20, 2012 I like this idea as well. The only issue is how to implement it. I was thinking of is when you reach max level with one champion (when the max level is established as a unchanging thing) you can mature into another form and you start at level 1 again. JHarlequin 0 Posted April 20, 2012 Starting at level 1 again isn't exactly popular, even if you have a character that can set your defenses on a high xp survival. Perhaps drop a bundle of levels but still be kind of high level. Perhaps go down to the godly armor cap, so you would have to change your armor for a short while. Another problem that might be involved is if you might want to respec. If you have specialised, would you appropriately be able to switch back, or do you need another character to get the other variety. While some people do have most of the variations, it might still be an issue that complicates the choice for players that don't have the variety of stat choices for each hero. Finally, what particular changes to the abilities would there be? Different towers, different active abilities, different stat base lines (Faster squire for example). Draken693 0 Posted April 20, 2012 That is true. But if you have the specialization be a fully new class type. Like an apprentice turns into either a wizard (which specializes in doing fast hitting but lower damage like the magic missle turret) or a sorcerer (which specializes with artillery fire style towers like the deadly strike tower). Or a squire turns into a knight (which is more of a DPS style squire) or a defender (more specialized tower building style squire). And for an added bonus, make them older. Not saying this is what it should be, just throwing out ideas. Different everything. It would hurt the overall DPS or Tower Building ability for whoever specializes in the other one but that is what specializations are.
chpoit 99 Posted April 20, 2012 I have to agree on that, seems nicer than only specializing as a hybrid/dps/tower, would add more versatility, although, buttclowns would have another reason to kick you(OMGFART Y U NO SORCERERERERERERER (time elapses, message pops up:) YOU WERE KICKED)
Galathox 0 Posted April 22, 2012 Well as long as it is balanced I'm sure there won't be any problems with people being like ew you're that class. I think that a option to change appearance would be best since people have bought outfits for certain characters, so it might induce rage when they aren't an option anymore. You could just raise the level cap instead of making them restart at a lower level, taking away somebody's really good armor kind of takes the incentive away. I know some other people have been talking about adding in new abilities for classes, and I think that it would be a good way to mesh the two ideas.
UltimateJorts 0 Posted April 22, 2012 It seems like a good idea to me!
Draken693 0 Posted April 25, 2012 Well my thoughts about the level thing was starting it at 50 and making the max level 100 that way you get half with one class and half with the other. But you would have to give the option of not specializing. I think it would upset a lot of people who worked their asses off getting all the best stuff for one character and then taking it away to have to switch between two different new classes. Zeothedeathgod 0 Posted April 26, 2012 There was a rumor that once you hit a certain level youd change into your parents characters, i dont think that would be good, but this sounds interesting, hit a certain level, become a new class, would keep you seperated from the lower levels, but than they would have to create new names for everybody, and those names could be planned for new classes, would be interesting to see how they would do this before going through with it. iamisom 2 Posted April 26, 2012 So like a perk system?
darkirby 0 Posted April 26, 2012 So like a perk system? I'd be totally fine with a perk system(or a mastery system similar to League of Legends(hold the flames)) but I think they were thinking something along the lines of an MMORPG. games like Ragnarok Online had job changes (the swordsman would change class to a knight or a crusader at job level 40) Maplestory (warrior turns into fighter, spear man, and i forgot the last one at level 30) a lot of Korean MMO's have these kind of things. they would retain the old skills, but learn newer ones that might even create the old skill to become obsolete.(so possible the "2" and "3" skills might change. or just one or the other) in DunDef, if this were to be implemented. I can see having a tower related job advance, and a DPS related job advance. there shouldn't be a downside. just a stronger other side. say I was an apprentice and I decided to advance to the "tower mage" my towers might have a "perk" other perks for the other skills can only go up via stat points past level 80(just throwing numbers) so whatever stat points you have from level 80, 81, and 83. you can use to buff up your towers and 2 skills(in this case, overcharge might have some new perk, and mana bomb will be changed to something else(maybe a tower heal aura(similar to monk's, but only regens the HP a lot faster, and only the HP) MM tower projectile speed increase Magic blockade HP increase FB tower splash damage increase lightning tower(this one's a bit difficult...) chance to deal 2x dmg DST attack rate(or) pierce chance increase over charge's perk could be to... I don't even know... the "skill 2" 's mastery can be used to increase the regen rate. doing something for a DPS mage... is still arguably doable. increase HP increase move speed increase damage ramp increase attack speed or decrease full charge delay and increase crit chance(?) over charge will turn into some form of DPS buff(maybe a "mana barrier" so he doesn't get hurt as bad) mana bomb "mastery" will increase range and damage and cast time. I love the idea that this game technically is along the lines of Diablo in terms of "it's not an MMO, but it almost certainly feels like one" but having job advancements will throw the entire endgame into a loop. making it super easy until they fix things up. maybe this idea can be used on dungeon defenders 2(haha!)
