Remove Events or Advertise them better (as in on the actual system not forums)

If they ran into someone with a SODA's Addiction and were wondering how to get a weapon that is 4 times the power of theirs, and figure out that they can't get it then they would have been told they missed out on all the events because they didn't know about/bother with the forums, ruining their hopes of being one of the best b/c someone that happened to stumble upon the forums got in an event and got lucky enough to win it.

post patch soda is irrelevent so this argument is mute

Exactly. Or like me they just join the the forums themselves but way too late.

Now that the patch will affect future event weapons people now have the chance of getting in on the ground floor again..
.. if only they'd join the forums.

The events as of right now are stickied but the only events that are running ATM is the 360 events. I believe that the PS3 events start on April 20.

Oh, they do sticky the events but the day they posted the list of participants they did it in an open post that had 100+ pages of posts already so everyone kept replying and it got buried. They also numbered that list but then said that you would be invited randomly from that list. Which is misleading and confusing. I would like to things managed properly and be more revealing to the community. Since it's community ran events it should be entirely open to us as far as what's going on and how things are operating.

I am sorry that you found out about the events a little to late since you missed out on quite a bit of event weapons, pets and armors. TE never knew how big the events were going to be so they never had plans to have a "message of the day" bar in there game. TE can only do so much to advertise events but you cannot blame them because you did not know about them. It is also up to the community to advertise the events as well since majority of the events are community based.

All event weapons are not OP especially with the new patch which will make every item in the game extremely OP and event weapons novelties. The best advice that I can give you is to always check game forums for games that you buy because you never know what you could be missing (contests, events, tournaments, etc).

I'm talking about on 360 so it's not so irrelevant right now or for who knows how much longer.

Are you on the PS3 or the 360? Because I host events on the 360 which me and warped always make sure we get everyone in, we also go that extra mile and host the same event the next day so we can get those people into the event that missed out. Me and Warped hosts events all day long which is about a 15 hour day sometimes we go pass 15 hours. There is only so much me and Warped can do.

Let me just make things clear..

I thoroughly enjoy this game and applaud Trendy for what they've done. Sure things aren't perfect, especially on the console side.. But they definitely go above and beyond the norm in trying to please the people who enjoy the game they've made. The events are just one of many things to reflect that.

I'm just a little disappointed/jealous that I wasn't aware from the get go. I don't blame anyone. I just wish it was easier to find out about the events.

And as far as my experiences since finding out about them Dredd, Warped and everyone else that co-hosted have been great ambassadors for the game. I had a blast trying their events and even winning some items. I let some friends know and we've joined every event that we could since.

I'm out a breath.. :)
My pennies.

I only really have one issue with the event items. It is that I am a newer player and because of that I essentially am to weak to participate in many of the events and I also have found that trading with anyone is just about pointless now since I have no event items to trade and it seems that is the only thing people are willing to trade for, plus from what I have read on the forums dupping is become such an issue I wouldn't even want to trade with anyone. I know this is basically my fault as I was a late adopter to the game(simply because I was out of work and I had to budget myself to the bones to survive), but in a wierd way it does make me feel like I am being punished because of this.

Please don't take this comment the wrong way I am not advocating that events be stopped nor am I placing blame on TE, the community, or any playes. It just is one of those situations where you feel left out because you were late to the party.

I am really sorry that you came late to the "whole event" thing. I have started up the events again for the 360 which will start tomorrow from 9am-12am EST.

I was thinking about that same problem for awhile. It's not really fair if you get to join an event and you lose only because you're new to the game. It's also not fair if you have no team for team events and your placed with people with low stats and then you lose because of it. Events could have no event weapons and people could just play for fun. Another option would be if all events gave out event weapons just for trying, aka. participation. This would solve the problems of people being new to the game, low leveled, getting too stressed over the events, etc. Mostly everyone would enjoy the events more. I know right now that people are going to go against me on these issues.

Thanks for the offer Dredd but I am on the PS3 ;( And no need for you to be sorry, I came late to the party and well I missed the majority of the dinner it is more my fault then anything.

When I have looked at some of the events I knew I wouldn't be able to participate as I had yet to even beat the challenge myself let alone be the reason a team loses, seems like a sure fire way to make enemies within the community(if your the reason the team loses). That is where I feel the stress of the events, in a way I wish there were events for those of us that are either newer, casual, or just not that skilled at the game. I wouldn't mind if the items we got reflected that as well, I mean why should I get some overpowered weapon or armor if I am newer and/or not that good at the game.

The events have just seemed like something that is out of my league and rightfully so as most of the ones I read were way out of my league. Again it is no ones fault and I am not trying to whine about it either, I am just hoping that some kind of system could be set up in the future to help those of us that like the game but have yet to master it.

To Unarmed, I like the idea of participation items as those kinds of events would be a little more inviting to someone like me, again since I don't want to be the reason the team loses, thats just to much stress for someone learning the ropes.

Thanks for listening(or reading, lol) and please don't take any of what I have said as me bashing anything or anyone. I think what use have done with the events are a good thing for the community, I just need to find a way in which I could participate and not feel like a third wheel.

Actually, I do have a team in the works to start up events. They will be custom events and everyone will win something even if they lose.

It is cool to hand out stuff just for participating. I had a few events that handed out event weapons for participating but doing it for every single event IMO will end badly. With events, people participate so they can win that awesome prize but if everyone got that same prize then the people who put a lot of effort to win will feel cheated because even if people lose, they will still receive the same item.

You end up taking away that sense of accomplishment and earning aspect of winning the event also I really do not agree with the whole "losers get rewarded" thing (no offense to anyone but people do lose sometimes) because they will never get better at the game/events if everything is just handed to them on a silver platter (no sense getting better at the game since I can enter events and just get the event weapon for just participating).

Player made or not the forums\facebook is a horrible source all the people i know that play dont even know where the forums are or that there was even a patch coming how are they supposed to find out about these events along with the 100's or 1000's of people that dont go to the forums because the console section is a mess compared to the pc section.if it impossible to add a message to the consoles like another user mentioned then they should be removed and no facebook and the forums arent enough facebook is a joke. still no item should be better than any challenge item at all not even by 1 stat point on the consoles if they are then they should be considered hacked.
Events could have no event weapons and people could just play for fun.
<-- is how it should be most the issues brought up unarmedreaper are prime examples of why events need to be changed.
people who play the game for more than just events have teams. its that simple
as for so called teams unless there is a feature in game to create a team\guild\party you cant expect people to have one or even know enough people to form one. and for playing the game for more than just events would not require a team i believe you have it backwards.

should be more like people that play the game for just events have teams. People that play for more than just events probably dont. this is in fact the first time ive heard of someone bringing up teams

There really is only a couple solutions remove events, advertise them on the console, make the event weapons weaker or the same strength as challenge weapons, or just remove the item gain completely so you dont have pissed off people who dont get it

Just going to chime in here, because lets face it, the core issue is not being addressed.

Firstly, we do not have the capacity to run the entire PS3 community through events. Let's make a modest guess that there are 5000 people playing the PS3 version. That would take 10 hosts 83 hours each week at a modest 30 minutes per event. Just doing that math, it would take a host 3 days 9 hours solid with no breaks to do. Not possible. Using modest numbers. Math below;

5000/10hosts = 500 each.
Game lasts 30 mins, 250 hours.
3 participants at a time, 83~ hours to run each event per host.

Not going to happen.

TE can not make that many event weapons, I won't go into why, but a reasonable person can see how many hours this would take. So then we have to make them extremely hard = overwhelming complaints. That leads to people playing selfishly and duping starts going nuts again. Event items will be within 10% of the best farmable weapon now. OP weapons were a mistake.

The reason events were created in the first place: TE realized that they could not support the game as much as what they could on PC. To make up for this fact, and for those who are aware of different versions (yes there are people on the console side who are none the wiser about the disparities between console and PC still), TE made events to keep the community interested. TE sponsored events are now over, and the community has taken charge of the events with the sponsorship of TE provided rewards.

TL;DR

Events are for everyone who makes the effort, but we just can't get everyone through. The events were created to retain community interest. Not everyone knows about the difference between PC and console.

It is simply impossible to make everyone aware of the events and get everyone through. It's sad, but we either stick to what we are doing, or the community will dissipate. Fact. I would love for everyone to get through, I just can't do it, neither can my team :(

And your not counting the time it takes for people to actually join/not show up...

If you cant get everyone through even if they signed up then its all the more reason it shouldnt exist.

I think I said this before, but winners will get the main prize and people who don't win (I never call people losers) can get a weaker consolation prize. This way people who win can have their super special awesome prize and people who don't win can have at least a decent prize. One solution is just to make every event weapon a novelty weapon. This would probably upset the community though.

I know that TeamLEGIT can't do this, since it would take too much time to make the items. My team at least could do this.
