TrendyNet should be back online now

Recommended Posts

Last I knew they had about 20 people give or take and they are not big enough to run 24 hour shifts.

These errors/glitches are usually due to steams new server service =\

I'll let them know asap if they don't already know =]

Respectfully, I disagree. Having someone "on-call" 24/7 to monitor for service interruptions is not as hard as it may sound. It does not require someone to be in front of a computer or in the office. Automated systems can be set up to send an alert to a cell phone or pager in the event of a service interruption (i had something similar when i was running a TF2 server network, I was 1 person and i managed). Lets say trendy has 20 employees (just a rough number), if you used weekly off hours shifts, each employee would be required to be "on call" a maximum of 3 times per year. When on call that employee would have a company phone that would receive notifications in case of service interruptions. This person could notify who ever manages trendynet. Thankfully we are not talking about constant outages (obviously im not including steam outages). Given the reliance of the game on trendynet, I would say its entirely reasonable to expect that trendy have some form of 24/7 monitoring system set up.

They may infact have something like that and just not have taken the time to let us know whats going on.

Please note: Steam is functioning fine. Its trendynet that is a problem. Also im not talking about short disconnects, im talking about outages, like what we are experiencing right now.

You don't have to have someone working 24 hours a day to prevent these situations (not that keeping servers up all the time is what any of us expect), just a notification that when your services are interrupted someone can be paged to come fix it. Considering it's almost been 4 hours now and not a word from them yet leads us to believe that they might not be aware.

what makes this game drop in points for me is all downtimes and disconnects. AND the lack of a SIMPLE SAVEFUNCTION in SURVIVAL MODE.

That's the best place to check if the problem is with steam or trendy. Yesterday the downtime was due to steam; today it is trendy.

I agree with many of you that they really should be monitoring this stuff. It's already 8:15 on the west coast and there is no response from Trendy. Hopefully this downtime is resolved soon.

Hey Ice, Thanks for letting us know.

Could you or someone else maybe give us some insight into whether you have a 24/7 hour monitoring system in place?

I am curious how its been 4 hours since i saw the first post regarding the outage and this is the first official reply we have seen. I would hope after 4 hours of outage you would at least have more information then "we are looking into it".

Are you sure its nothing about the Date today ? its not really a "real day". I do not know if that can affect the game at all but it is 29 february . this date is only every 4th year . I know some dates has screwd up some computer/networking stuff before . Might this be the reason ?

LOL no, but that's a good way to think outside the box. I'm pretty sure you are thinking of the Y2k scare where banking software only stored two digits instead of four (98 vs 1998) thus causing an issue with date tracking because 00 had previously stood for 1900. was anyone really affected by Y2k? I'm pretty sure it was hyped by grocery food stores so they people would buy tons of canned product. My dad still has a shelf of baked beans... :-)

COMPLETELY off topic, but as far as I'm aware, the only casualty of the y2k bug was a firework display called "The River of Fire" that was supposed to happen in London along the Thames, which failed completely to start.

Haha. Although, I just looked it up to verify, and turns out it was a union dispute that prevented it. Hahaha. No. No-one was affected.

Well I just read a post on Twitter that an insurer's system is having difficulties as the date is the 29th. It's completely possible this is the cause, but everything we post here can only be speculation until Trendy responds.

Hahahaha. If that were the problem, it would have gone down at 00:01 local time or similar.
Which means unless their servers are located in fiji, that's not the reason.

Haha. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but will you? If so, where? Or do you mean, you'll post in the Online/Offline thread that it's online when it is? That's an update of sorts.

Also, will there be a postmortem (doesn't have to be published externally)? Do you guys have 24/7 support in place? Is there a pager alert? Was it just a case of the guy on call being asleep? If you don't have these things in place, are you going to put them in place? It would be nice to know what to expect in the future. I mean, 2-3 hours of downtime to fix an issue? Sure. These things happen. Can't be helped. Stuff goes wrong. Computers explode. Parts need to be ordered or soldered, things reinstalled. No problem.

But 5 hours of downtime before you even notice and respond for an international multiplayer game that people pay for? That's kinda lame.

Tad extreme, but I do agree with the last part. The ' TrendyNet Status ' thread should be updated immediately to let the public know what's going on.

What would also help, there are 2 separate trendynet status threads. One currently says offline, the other online. This could easily cause some confusion for people.

We'll post updates in this thread, in the TrendyNet status thread, on Facebook and on Twitter. There have been people working on the issue since it went out. We're incredibly sorry for the delayed response.

Well thats good to hear.

I don't mind genuine issues when they arise, as long as Trendy can update the online/offline sticky as soon as they know with updates on when it will be back online, thats good enough for me.
