Ricebowl 0 Posted February 29, 2012 Followed by 10 patches of reward weapon nerf's. Truth. If the DLC is released late and comes with a myriad of bugs and terribly tuned items and/or content, then we WILL remember that it was indeed late AND that it was bad. Ricebowl 0 Posted February 29, 2012 Game studios miss announced release dates all the time. What's with the sense of entitlement around here? Itt'l be released when it's good and ready, and the product will be all the better for it. The sense of entitlement comes from the fact that many of us paid for this content IN ADVANCE and were told it was going to be released one part per month. We have the right to feel entitled. WaxPaper 0 Posted February 29, 2012 The sense of entitlement comes from the fact that many of us paid for this content IN ADVANCE and were told it was going to be released one part per month. We have the right to feel entitled.EXACTLY. No matter how much you "white knights" spin the issue, it doesn't change the fact that as CUSTOMERS, Trendy is letting us down. Now you can argue that point when it comes to being a FAN, but when we're purchasing a product from the company, we as customers expect -- and have the right to expect -- that certain obligations are followed through. Alhanalem 62 Posted February 29, 2012
EXACTLY. No matter how much you "white knights" spin the issue,
We're not "white knighting" nor spinning the issue. It's a fact of life that companies miss release dates. Things don't always go as planned. This is why most don't give release dates at all anymore until just before it comes. It stinks and I'm totally with you on that. However, I searched through the forums long and hard and could not find one place where it was stated "the shards parts will come out one per month." I could be mistaken but I can't seem to find this anywhere. Even February would have been missing that but nobody acted like this when January passed by. Trendy was not "obligated" to deliver the product by a certain date- No such date was explicitly specified as a promise. They left the release vague for a reason. I 100% totally agree that it's disappointing that it has not come out when most of us expected, but the extra time being taken will only result in a better quality product when it is finally brought to you. Do you really want a terribly broken disfunctional add-on now, or would you prefer that the product is polished up before releasing it? You really shouldn't be so upset that they're late. However if the product was cancelled/altered substantially (xbox DLC?) THEN I might be reacting more like you are. I do feel I have the right to expect that a product is delivered. I don't, however, feel like it's reasonable to rage when that product is delayed due to technical issues or unexpected setbacks.

[...] I hear ya, and as you can probably surmise from my post history, I'm not one to rock the boat for no reason. But a big part of the problem is that Trendy is beginning to make a habit out of missed release dates, as well as very poor interaction with its customer base. As far as the release schedule, Trendy's old community manager led one IGN interviewer to at least surmise that the packs would be released monthly:"What you get in the upcoming DLC is an entirely new set of campaign and challenge missions, as well as new PVP maps. It's broken into four chunks, each costing $3.99, with the first releasing on December 15th for the PC, and on the 21st for consoles. Subsequent parts are planned for monthly release, and will each include three new missions, new items, a new pet, a new enemy type, and a new boss." And Jeremy WAS quoted directly about the EV Series class, which he said would be released in February: "[...], but fully original Heroes are on the way, starting with the dual-wielding "Barbarian" in January, and then the steampunk automaton "Series EV" in February." I dunno, man... As a customer, all I can truly attest to is how I feel, and how I feel is pretty short-changed and taken advantage of. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if this behavior continues, or if Trendy can improve.
bschmiduk 0 Posted February 29, 2012 Do you really want a terribly broken disfunctional add-on now, or would you prefer that the product is polished up before releasing it? Keep ALL the add-ons and expansions. Take as long as you need. I'm still waiting for the initial release to stop crashing randomly. The customers have a right to expect that, don't we? If you're having crash issues, then go into your game folder (typically C:\Program Files [or Program Files (x86)]\Steam\steamapps\common\dungeon defenders\Binaries and you should find crash logs. Post in the Report an Issue forums, describe what if anything is typically happening when you crash, and provide the crash log files. They can't fix crashes if they can't reproduce them or don't know what's causing them.
I dunno, man... I guess we'll just have to wait and see if this behavior continues, or if Trendy can improve.
As a person, not a customer, you should cut them a little slack. This happens to every studio, and unavoidable delays are almost inevitable. We're STILL waiting for Half Life 2 Episode 3 after what? two years? but none of valve's fans are going "I'M A CUSTOMER! GIVE ME MY EPISODE 3 NOW or I'll never buy another valve product ever again!" Even Duke Nukem Forever's fans weren't this way, and they had a lot more reason to be upset. In no way do I mean to suggest that it's perfectly OK to miss publicly stated dates, only to say that probably something went wrong or a major issue(s) were found and that they had no choice but to delay it further. Perhaps they did learn from it because they haven't given a new date yet. I can actually understand a certain degree of resevation since the last couple holiday events didn't go over so well. And (this is just my opinion) I think that is why they are taking so much longer than originally planned. Just sit tight a little bit longer- I have a feeling it's going to be worth the wait and hopefully the next ones will not be significantly delayed beyond that. Alhanalem 62 Posted February 29, 2012 I wish I could help you more, but again, they might not be able to reproduce your issue. They have fixed many causes of "return to tavern" crashes, and I pesronally have not had a single one since I started playing. Any of a million different things could be factoring in. But please, post this in the report an issue forum provide the most recent crash dump/log you have and give any details you can imagine that might help them reproduce the issue. Let's not send this thread more off topic.
bschmiduk 0 Posted February 29, 2012 Sorry, classic. First sniff I've had of any response to the crashes and I got excited. But is is sorta on topic - like I said before, I'd gladly give up the expansions if Trendy would focus on fixing the base game. ANd sorry, mod, our posts crossed. Delete this if you like - I don't want to mess up the thread.

For now it's better that they do their best to get Shard 2 done right so as to not disappoint the understandably impatiently waiting player base.

Ricebowl 0 Posted February 29, 2012 You walk into McDonalds and order a meal. The cashier then says it'll be ready in 10 minutes. You pay for your meal upfront. She gives you your drinking cup. Then, when 15 minutes have passed, you go up and ask the cashier about the rest of your meal. The cashier then becomes silent. You then complain to the manager and the manager tells you that you shouldn't have this sense of entitlement just because you paid for something. The manager then also says that "you won't remember that it was late, only that it was good." Of course, you have NO idea whether it'll actually be a nice burger or be made out of rotten or wrong ingredients. Meanwhile, you're just sipping on your soda, still hungry for the burger you ordered that's currently late, even though 20 minutes has passed.
Sickle 0 Posted February 29, 2012 I can understand delays, some are unavoidable. But where's the heads up? Where's the "Okay we said it's coming out in February but it's just not gonna be here." I understand delays but when I PAID for something and TRENDY said I would have it and I DON'T have it, I think we all have a right to complain about that. Ricebowl 0 Posted February 29, 2012 The above scenario I mentioned is of course utterly false and would never happen to a restaurant that doesn't want to shut down in a month. Here's the thing. We know it's late. We understand that unexpected things get in the way of release dates. We just want reassurance that you're doing everything you can, not random excuses. Insight to these problems are always welcomed by the playerbase. We just want to feel like we're something more than numbers in your bank account.
Streambeta 0 Posted February 29, 2012 The reason why I would rather just have it now instead of waiting is that next week is spring break and I am getting together with a few people to play to crap out of Dungeon Defenders. I would like to be able to level up to 78 during my spring break and go through the new maps. Instead of it coming out on a date that is basically going to be during a week I am going to have multiple exams. Which is going to force me to be unable to play until April. So they better release it next week or just wait until May. You'll save me a lot of trouble.
Payne1599 0 Posted February 29, 2012 As a person, not a customer, you should cut them a little slack. This happens to every studio, and unavoidable delays are almost inevitable. We're STILL waiting for Half Life 2 Episode 3 after what? two years? but none of valve's fans are going "I'M A CUSTOMER! GIVE ME MY EPISODE 3 NOW or I'll never buy another valve product ever again!". Did Half Life 2 players prepaid for Episode 3 content? No. I dont think you're comparing the correct context here. The full game experience of Eternia shards is Part 1 + 2 + 3 + 4. How long do you want us to play with the steering wheel without the car? I know that they have been adding content like Assualt Pack/Sky O Love/Presidents Day. We are happy and thankful for those content. However in terms of story and game progression, it does nothing. Sure it is fun to play those DLCs for couple of days but not for weeks. Maybe Trendy missed out their PLAN on releasing these free DLCs into their calendar thats why part 2 is late. Or maybe because part 2 is going to be late that's why the DLCs are to shut up players who prepaid for Eternia Shards. And of coz no one used PROMISED or GUARANTEED release of the other parts every month, But it has been MENTIONED that it will be and I dont think it is that hard to MENTION to people who prepaid that content that it will be late for the rest of the content. Would Trendy let us have access the content and let us pay later? Which we could say "I'm going to be late for the payment for the DLC." or I shall keep quiet and not tell Trendy that I am going to pay them late. Think about it, payment is made to protect the developers. What would you think when you bought something online and it is not delivered. Hell yeah I would think that company is trying to dog me out. So all i have to say is, are we being unreasonable for us to ask for a little announcement that content will be late?
Mr_X 0 Posted March 1, 2012 I think in all honesty that everyone would stop complaining and be happy if they had some sort of response from a dev or customer manager on what is happening and not the forum mods. Sure i can understand the devs / customer managers are busy but it would take them all of 5 mins to come on here and make a post and keep the paying customers happy. Im sure it would all make us fee like valued customers if we just had some sort of response.
Bagel 0 Posted March 1, 2012 did any of you read the digest? they apologized for the delay, explained that they are still testing, and even said that sony gave the ok for console and they are waiting for xbox. it sounds like you are waiting for a golden apology letter to be handed to you. patience is a virtue, even for the justifiably entitled pc players. Bagel 0 Posted March 1, 2012 they release a digest every Wednesday, the fact that its the last day of February is kind of coincidental. I am not trying to flame or insult anyone's intelligence, if my post came off that way I am sorry. I am more frustrated with the increase of complaints than I am with the patch delay. That being said i also understand that most people are upset over the delay and like myself feel the need to verbalize their frustration. I may not be invested as the pc players are, so all I can do is plead that people be civil and calm. The more this anger escalates and spreads the quicker people will be to rage or quit and poison the community further.
