(2) Report Game Function

Recommended Posts

Proposal: Implement a report game function accessible from the list of games. The report should automatically list the game name and the name of the host. It should 2 clicks total: 1 click to report, and 1 click to send a verification.

Reason: All too often, there will be games that state something along the lines of "USD for mana or items," which is a clear violation. With the name of the game and the host name, an administrator should be able to determine if the game violates the rules per se (on its face), without checking the items or content of a game.

The 2 click system is to reduce the possibility of mistaken clicks.

Effect:
This will allow quick administration without exponentially spending valuable time or resources.

This will also make trades for real currency more difficult. Potential buyers will have to look harder, and potential sellers will have to find another way to advertise or attract potential buyers. They may try to use code words, but they wouldstill need to advertise such code words, which would take time for awareness to grow, to the detriment of the seller.

While this proposal will not get rid of hacked items or USD trades altogether, it will deter public games and AFK shops that state trades for USD. This will not get rid of traders, if they put a legitimate game name as the title of the room. However, sellers may think it will not be worth the trouble.

Some players who are reported may complain lack of due process because items, mana, transactions, and chat logs are not examined--and that they may not have completed a transaction. However, if a title of a game indicates an illegitimate intention, such player has expressed intent. That player should have simply known better than to indicate that they are willing to trade for real currency. To combat complaints, you may also implement a warning system (such as a 3 strikes rule).

The feature would have to be useful for a long time. If they added the feature just so you could report game names that are inappropriate or detracting from gameplay, then they will just stop using those names and the feature would become unusable.

This report function would probably need a short text fill in so you can explain why you reported it. It takes a few more moments and wouldn't need much when the name of the room is obvious (Report us$$ for myths) but for other rooms you would have to go in and see the guy's pitch to know it's wrong.

I have been in one where I entered |Players| game, just to find weapons lying around and go to the tavern keeper and see that the weapons had no price but were named in a way to basically pitch people to go to a website to buy items.

Having to exit game to do the reporting is depressing and tiresome. Some people probably just don't bother, so a better in game system would be nice.

They shouldnt even need a report function. Any GM patrolling games could easily determine who is selling for real money by making a disguised character going into the 9 million games with USD in the title and smashing the BIG RED STAPLES EASY BAN BUTTON. Give me GM status and I could clean out the games in 15 minutes each day. Do that for a month and most the problem is gone. I dont know why this isnt being done. The ppl selling for real money are making it quite easy for themselves to be caught.

I've an idea, as part of the in-game report feature, you could go into a room and (Like TF2) Press a button, the game would take a screenshot and then give you a form to fill in details (Room name and hosts name would be included when screenshot taken.) and then send it to be reviewed. Thus circumventing the "Take screenshot(s), upload screenshot(s), using the Steam Web Browser or another web browser post thread, wait." Method and actually getting the reports straight to Admins/Mods/Whomever. I've had a report in the forums right now that's sat there for days and it hasn't even been viewed by a mod/admin.

What about Quick Join you could get some players banned because they just did a quick join. I would revise this to a report a player in game button.

They aren't going to ban everyone that was in the game instantly. They will decide if they need to investigate then they would review the quality of the items. When they decide someone is using and selling hacked items, they'll probably ban them. When they see someone has bought a hacked item, they'll probably take it away.

Most companies don't ban people on just a few reports. It would be foolish because then there message boards get spammed with "I was banned for no reason" threads. Of course every company gets those anyway, but no company wants to deal with them.
