Trendy, Scrap DD and Make DD2 an October 2012 Release

There is NO reason why this game should be ditched because it has some bugs or malfunctions.

Is nobody familiar with the idea of patches and fixes? Cause over the last few months I've been witness to weeks of content and updates. You won't find me repeating the same hollow minded talking points like the others. Especially when the player base has dropped 65 percent, and the leveling system needs a complete wipe, and hackers still run rampant like the plague.

Having little to zero player base and broken game mechanics totally gives Trendy the incentive to waste resources on a game fewer and fewer people are playing.

I don't think they need to market it as a DD2 but what they need to do comes close enough to it that they could get away with it. The monster balance needs to be retuned from the ground up. The loot system should be redesigned with the entire progression path planned out including thinking ahead to content further down the road - something that wasn't done with the easy-insane gear. The towers need to be completely scrapped and started again. Co-op play needs to be rethought as currently there is little incentive to play co-op and even when you do there are massive problems with the share of workload.

Sure they could do all that in DD but about the only part of the game that remains is the engine. When it's done would it even qualify as DD anymore? The advantage of making it a separate game is that they can leave the current iteration untouched for those who might prefer some of its quirks. It would also generate new interest in the game compared to what a DLC generates and could draw in new revenue which would be required to undertake the completion of such a large project.

You are dead on. People keep saying that they need to patch all the fixes need for DD The truth is, the game is technically complete and its best that they start transitioning to DD2 for a fresh start.

Trendy has little incentive to fix the problems that weigh down the game right now. Most of the player base are in late game mode, so many of the "fixes" that are needed, technically are best placed with a new game and a fresh audience. Not the cretinous gremlins that hang in shops selling me a Crystal Tracker for 50 bucks.

Setup secure servers, set a bonus xp rate, and start a season 2... problem solved without a need for a whole new game

Trendy had little incentive to do what you just suggested. The player base has dwindled to only around 5k. (if that now) The majority of the player base is the elite who obtain e-peen jollies knowing that no one else has the broken gear/pets that they have.

Which in the end means adding these balance changes is pointless... why balance a game when only the elite are still playing?

The game has been patched enough for people to have an enjoyable experience from beginning to end.

The LAST thing I think Trendy should do with DD is just shovel the rest of the new Eternity Crystal DLC out and be done with this game for good.

Move on, it's time for DD2.

Stop deluding yourselves with naive comprehensions of a restoration.

That said, you claim in the OP that Trendy has turned this game into a tangled mess and at the same time claim that they have learned how not to make a tangled mess. If this game, as it stands now, is beyond repair, what evidence do you have that a sequel would be any different? If you think Trendy isn't competent to fix DD, what makes you think they're competent to make DD2 any better?

On another note, you seem to be saying that fixing DD is a losing proposition because the player base is leaving and they'd be fixing a game that no one is around to play. If people are so disgusted with DD, what would incentive would they have to drop money a second time for DD2? Admittedly, there are stupid gamers out there (just look at the success of CoD where people buy the exact same game each year at $60 a pop), but I tend to think if your game is so broken that you cannot help but drive away once loyal customers, no sequel stands a chance because you've already left players with a bad taste in their mouths.

I couldn't agree more, besides having bought Lost Eternia Shards I put my money in advance in trendy's hand and I expect that they devote their time not with a sequel but making this game better and fixing what is broken.

Finally hit it spot on... We dont need a new game... We need to re-roll this game on new servers with some anti-hacking software.

The game is flipping awesome people and the progression up until nightmare is near perfect. Nightmare is a little weird still because I couldnt clear a boss level but I could beat all the others...

They can run seasons just like Diablo2 does. Port the old characters to open. Make people create new ones on ranked and then destroy any hacking on ranked as soon as it rears its ugly head.

ntm, 1.16 will be their first patch since Christmas, and we don't know everything it entails, so for all we know, they have these ideas on their mind... making this entire thread just a pointless attempt to troll the people who still have faith in trendy. nuff said

Edit: The only problem I would have with starting everyone off fresh is the time I put into my current DunDef characters would be gone. I think I could deal but I would be slightly saddened. I'd hope before the clearing of any servers happened all the balancing issues would be fixed, then it would be a good thing. Maybe right now this could be considered DunDef *beta*

I think you underestimate how many companies reboot a series after having a false start. It's certainly not uncommon and many times, it pays off big. We live in a society where people are always looking to forgive past mistakes.
And again, the game is technically complete. It may not be most appealing but they finished the game and should just release the last of the dlc and move on. I'll say it again the incentive to fix all the "problems" this game faces just isn't worth the resources/time.

Why do I think DD2 will be any better? There's a difference between tinkering with a system made and starting with a new smarter system based off an old experience.

All you will manage to do is get yourself kicked from these forums with that attitude.

This community has more or less become a cliquish sect. People like Vesper and Janitorus flood the forum with one-liners and zingers desperate for attention. In this case, mine.

They have nothing else better to do in their lives; they just continue to spam the forums mostly out of boredom. They're completely disposable in society. Bitter and useless, and they know it.

I figured I would try to start a discussion on how to make the game better; once again these loners sit in their parents basements licking the Cheetos of their fingers just to shoot down ideas.

I think by now we've established something is seriously wrong with your attitude.

I'd hope trendy takes it under their wings to change the game alot. Maybe a top down view, more TOWER defense :P Don't turn into media molecule and make the second game nearly identical (LBP) with just a new coat of paint (LBP2)

Honestly, dude, if you hate the game so much, then leave. I don't think you realize that Trendy has put a ton of work in to this game and you insulting them isn't going to help your cause at all. Also, if you even wanted to put forth the effort to play at the top or close to the top level, then go spend the time to do it. I, and thousands of others, still enjoy this game the way it is. You can play it casually or hardcore, or somewhere in between and it won't hurt you AT ALL.

And balance wise, have you played Nightmare at all? Sure, the DPS in insane and lower levels is easy as you only need to hit ~100k and you can complete anything without any difficulty. Go to nightmare and towers become a thing of the gods. Nightmare, survival, and challenges really bring this game to life. And honestly, the so called grind, isn't all that bad for DD. If you enjoy playing the game then you won't even notice it.

To Trendy: You have a great game and concept going. Keep it up!

As a console player, i don't have much basis for this. However, i do read plenty of pc threads to know what pc version is like. I've seen equipment and also have seen videos of nightmare mode.

A downgrading wipe. Don't annihilate everyone's items and tell them to start from scratch and redo loots runs and challenges. Downgrade all nightmare equipment to a new formula of set amount of upgrades. lets use 60 upgrades for example.

Revert the equipment to that level of upgrade, and make already held equipment lvl 1 with all the mana already put in and ready to be upgraded to max level so the players can set up the way they like. This will be put on a percentage, where if your weapon has 200 upgrades but max at this time is 250, your equipment will be reverted to 48 upgrades where max is 60. All loot drops be maxed out to 60^, with progression leading to insane difficulty capping out at about 40 upgrades.

This patch will obviously tear down enemies' health, resistances, and the like. Will also have to revert player healing scales and the like.

Why is this plausible? It would take a LOT less time than making a whole new game. And if this never even goes into the works, Simply buy a console and the game for the console. We are still pre-patch, which means even an animus caps out at 33 upgrades. Who knows what Trendy will be doing with console (they tell us nothing), but if it's a big enough problem to continuously whine to trendy that your not liking the direction the pc version has gone, but your still willing to give another try (i.e. your willing to buy DD2, another game made by trendy), then you must be willing to rebuy the game, dlc, and future dlc that is coming. Keep in mind, with the success that DD has brought to Trendy (sales-wise), They will almost certainly make DD2 cost 30+ dollars, as even this game without patches aside from bug fixes, is worth that much.

@MintyCool-- Stop bashing player's opinions. Your NOT the "voice of reason" and also are not the only person Trendy accommodates to. Calling a player uneducated only proves how sad a person you really are. The internet is probably the only place you feel "big", as i'm sure if you have kept that attitude everywhere you go, you would have gotten your *** kicked too many times. Just because this is the internet doesn't mean you get to be an ***. DD2 isn't going to happen at least until DD1 has the eternia shards dlc released, the console patches, the new characters, and the ports to Wii U and the Vita have been made. If you didn't know this, stop being a noob and gather up some information before suggesting implausible ideas.

How do we know Trendy isnt already working on a DD2 and patching this game at the same time? Considering the ground work is set, it definitely could be a possibility.

The game being finished or not is all someone's personal opinion. Minty you seem to be done with the game and therefore think the game is complete. While others who look forward to the next patch do not believe it is done. The problem this poses is that if Trendy decides to scrap and re-work, everyone who is looking forward to that next patch is mad. If they continue to patch and fix issues then their CURRENT PLAYER BASE will be happy. And who will be mad? The guys trolling the forums who probably dont play anymore..

By the way, I do agree that everything you said should be implemented and/or fixed, I just dont believe an entirely new game is the way to do it.
