Can you buff NM spiders please?

Recommended Posts

I'd like the spiders to be buffed a bit to provide more of a challenge. Don't get me wrong, they are pretty good now, but they could be better.

Now a few suggestions:

- Make them damage immune and untargetable* while spawning, also make it so they cant target anything while doing so to balance it out. Having turrets kill spiders before they can do anything is a bit of a let down.

- Don't make their primary focus to web something, this causes them to stand there and get killed. Make their focus to get behind their target first with their jump attack or something of that nature.

- Fix their AI so they actively seek out and assault defenses while there are no players alive. This would also address the issue of players having to wait for them to suicide at the end of hc nm mm misty rounds when there are no living players. Another note on this would be to make the crystals a viable target IF, and only if, there are no defenses or player on the map.

- Lower their base damage but increase their damage vs webbed players by a decent amount. Don't bring it up to insta gib levels, but increase it a bit, like double.

- Increase the mana they drop to 50. 27 Isn't nearly enough considering their difficulty.

Keep up the good work, love the game!

Added Zap's Idea.

How is this a troll post? I believe in the changes I have suggested. Hence why I put it in the actual suggestion area instead of in the patch note section of the forum where everyone just likes to complain.

Oddly, I agree with all your changes - but mostly because all of those changes appear to actually end up making them weaker / more rewarding / more strategic:

#1 - I don't think it will really make much difference, but I'd say rather than make them immune, make them untargettable so towers don't waste shots as well, as either having spiders die during spawn or towers firing uselessly are both a bit pointless/annoying.

#2 - I think this is a great change, it makes tower counters more effective if well designed vs spiders. It also makes dodging in a set pattern more effective than random movement.

#3 - I like that there's an enemy that doesn't care about the crystals whatsoever in any situation, I think it adds something to the game, and don't think it'd really add anything enjoyable.

#4 - Makes sense to me.... as long as webs don't stack/reset when hit when already webbed.

#5 - Yep.

This primarily goes toward the end of waves in hc nm mm misty where the last 100 or so monster spawns are spiders. If they do this AI change it will force the spiders to actually go after the defenses if all the players are dead instead of you just having to wait for the spiders to suicide off. The added crystal attacking thing is basically for the situation where you should have lost but didn't because of a bad AI mechanic.

EDIT: Though I may have worded it poorly (I don't know whether you meant his or not) but I meant for the spiders to go after the crystals only if there are both; no defenses alive and no players alive.

I can't say I see anything about your suggestions that I can argue with. There's definitely a valid argument to be made for each of them. The only thing I would add is making the web charge either interruptable, or not allow the spiders to change their point of aim once they start charging it. Not a buff to spiders by any means, but it's the last remaining thing about them that really annoys me so I had to throw it into the spider discussion, hehe.

From what I understand misty is quite easy survival due to the following reason:
Capped 1K mob, which results in much less spider.

Only hard thing is to get to survival. (Getting carried trough boss kill (by bought gear that is better than anything before it or players) doesn't count)

Try other survivals, where the last ~7% of the mobs are spiders, kobolds and ogres only. (7K mob, 400 mob spider, 90 kobold, 10 ogre for example)
Kobolds will tear down your walls, spiders will stun-lock you, and ogres will kill your crystal, once the walls are down.

Other than that 1,3,5 makes sense.
