Lightning and Deadly Striker Towers

Recommended Posts

I finally switched over from PS3 to PC for my Dungeon Defenders home experience and decided to play up an Apprentice this time around.

One lesson I've learned playing as the squire is that it's sometimes better to focus on doing your damage safely and from a distance rather than blocking things up right away and dealing with dead/dying towers.

I've been using deadly striker and lightning towers with crazy-effective results, even on hard difficulty. Although this doesn't work on tightly packed maps like Glitterhelm, it seems like the combination of large crowd damage and very selective power shots ensures I never get clogged up.

My spec right now is to get the damage and speed (with range as a distant 3rd) of my towers up over everything else. Deadly strikers at 1.8s cooldown are no slouch so far! And I'm still getting my levels/gear!

At high levels the deadly strike tower becomes the worst of them all due to the speed not scaling right because of the animation.

What do you think would have to happen to make them useful?

Instead of just shooting through walls maybe make it shoot through mobs as well, that and making the attack speed abit quicker too.

ATM its just not worth the defence units

Edit: Actually TBH i would prefer they just scrap it altogether, something like a tower that boosts the stats of all other towers nearby would be much more beneficial and worth the defence points

I don't really have a problem with DS.
It is situational, yes, but it can protect many other towers, also shoot spiders before the fall, snipe necros from the group.
It's raw DPS isn't comparable to mm or fb tower, but DS shoots twice as far and trough walls, and THAT is what you have to use to your advantage.

Of course, if it's animation speed was fixed, it would be better.

DSTs are only marginally better than MMs in their uses, except they cost almost 3 times as much. I would certainly prefer 3 MMs covering any situation instead of a DST, or even 1 MM 1 Fire tower. Useful at normal/hard levels of play, but scales terribly and a waste of DU at insane/nightmare

Does huntress guardian have any effect on a DST that's already fast enough to get capped by the animation?

I really would like to see some work done to DST... Taking a page from other tower defense games, I think it would be cool if it's range was a radius like the Lighting tower and had extreme range. Then have it distinctly prioritize targets Bosses>Ogres>Ninjas>Casters (new mobs in there somewhere most likely). If I could set one of these suckers up in the middle of my map and know its blasting high priority targets all over the map for me, I'd say it would be a suitable expensive final tower.

Either that or make it the definitive, ultimate anti-air machine.

From all of these posts, I think I only read one which was in favor of using DSTs when a specific situation arises. From my own experiences with apprentice towers, until I used DSTs on Nightmare Ramparts, I didn't stand a chance. Hardcore Ramparts is a piece of cake now that I added DSTs to the mix.

yea or check ceemeeirs sig for his guide. DST helping a lot to beat some endless spires waves in NM even without good gear as u can see there.

further i remember reading sth yesterday about 3 dst covering all spiders and 1 wyvern spawn in mystimire forest. he didnt test it out on nm difficulty but that shows it can be good though.

they are situational but not useless.

Yah, that was me with the Mistymere 3 DST. It worked exceedingly well on Insane, only one wyvern got through due to a tower getting webbed for a split second. But, ultimately failed at the boss though.

Agreed. They the only reason I can even attempt Summit on nightmare (thanks for your loot guide btw. It is awesome)
