Apprentice DPS = Winning :)

Recommended Posts

mac you talked about hitting 450 in the dps thread yesterday...lol i took my huntress non resist crappy dps gear (have not upgraded in awhile. I came out to around 320ish hero attack and broke 450 DPS with a crappy 65^ Staff that started at like 59base damage.

The only difference is you have to get your clicking speed down. hold a fraction of a second and your staff fully charges totally nerfing dps. DPS with a apprentice takes more skill than holding the auto fire button with a hunter. I fell in love with apprentice this week and it's really my main toon now. I started as a huntress went to squire and now am loving the apprentice.

I really love wave 20+ Hopping up to the top firing 3 times and clearing out the jumble of mobs (we duo/solo everything no 4 player for us)

My only drawback atm with my apprentice is that resists are a must so my gear i do mixmode with sadly has very little attack.

If your talking Multi-target DPS (or more useful KPS) Huntress has you beat by loads.
If your talking single target, Monk was beating you last I checked.

If Aprentices are actualy topping both, while havig the best rapair to boot, then you'll be re-balanced soon enough ^^'

Try 100~ Charge bonus on your staff, its the shiz~ (although not 100% practical :3)

No, not nearly >.> Tried it before on a low staff but tried again. Very fun I can't get near the max charge on it when I have over 100. Still get around 180-200k dps which I guess isn't bad for having only 200 HAttack?

I've been DPS Apprentice from the very start :)

But they still aren't as good at score racking as a Huntress. Apprentices are better for completion, Huntresses are better for scoreboards and PvP. Higher movement speed, higher HP scaling, and higher DPS from maximum range is what matters in those.

An App holds the #1 for Insane Alch Survival, so I don't know what he's doing.

so is it really worth upgrading all the resists to max? I too recently made the switch to hero app, (might switch the gear to the girl version once patch hits) and started using a resist set, but I upgraded ALL the resists as high as I could...is this not a good idea? I'm still hitting around 300 hero damage but I imagine I probably could have got a lot more hero damage...

My app does 240k when I feel like trying to maximize dps and I still have 4 more ups on my staff. To do this DPS, it REQUIRES me to be point blank, which requires me to run around, which cuts into dps time...

Once an app is more than 10 yrds away from a "horde" of mobs in front of him, only 2-4 of his bolts will be hitting out of 6. So in SUSTAINED DPS, huntress > app in ALL accounts for any map or mode.

Huntress can do the same amount of dps at close range as they do from 40 yrds away, pierce multiple targets, piercing shot which doesnt cut into the fire rate, and with the VW, shoot through walls... They also have receive more hp:hero point and therefore dont get 2 shot by DEW.

I mean, this is the reason why melee in most regards, suffer in wow, on boss fights. They have to move around to avoid things or chase things where as warlocks, mages, hunters, SPs, ele shamans etc. all had much higher dps up times. Fights where melee succeeded were generally fights they didnt have to dodge things or the boss didnt move.

Hate it when people take single target dummies as any sort of merit of truth and refuse to consider "real world" application. Sort of like my friend who says its easy to dodge ogres... yea 1v1, but in most encounters, theres 30 more guys walking in the vicinity including a DEW who decides to jump on your head or in your path. Huntress' DONT have to deal with that crap.

Since elemental essentially do two lots of damage, 1 lot of physical and the same again elemental. then any physical resitance you would be getting 1 shot at should be matched at the very /least/ in elemental to avoid one shots. If you can get away with less then max will depend how often your hit by each elemental. I expect as content difficulty increases, maxing al will be needed.

@mockingcrow:

I'll just say they each have their specialties and I prefer the app's tool set to the huntress and there are few maps where you shoot an enemy from 40m away. DEWs aren't a prob, they get OS if they make it to an app.

@Jason Parson:

From the damage I've been taking the things I dread the most is fire. Kobolds and mages have the only attacks that don't scale off phys before dealing elem from what I've noticed.

Honestly, all the App needs is a hp scaling buff and his two useless abilities (right click and mana bomb) reworked.

I personally dont mind the APP dps... just survivability. I have 69% phys resist with 1300ish hp and still get 2-3 shot by DEWs whereas my huntress with the same hero health points takes 4-5 shots and is able to dps more efficiently from a safe distance.

So... why is the class who REQUIRES to be in melee to be 100% effective, the weakest class in regards to damage taken? Im really optimistic theyll add some really useful abilities to staves soon, isntead of a terrible knockback which again... requires us to be in close combat.

Like I said before, we're glass bouncer blockades and huntresses are iron cannons....

I would REAAAALLLY like to see right click be different per staff with different abilities, some being a slow shot(AOE) or blizzard ability, others being meteor/molten boulder/volcano, then you have mana shield...

As for mana bomb... im thinking something that can not only help the mage, but ALL players by creating some sort of resistance interference "field" for 30 secs that removes any mobs resistance while in the radius of the field that persists in the blast radius. Would really make me want to use it EVERY time its up in strategic locations.

I love this thread because as someone who has been playing for...a while. Its nice to see the tides of power change and the community laughing about it and trying new things. Gives me hope for this game :D

Hey gents,
I'm fairly new to apprentice dps. What is the priority order for upgrading staffs? Do I upgrade physical damage only? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

For upgrading staffs:
# of shots fired > physical damage

For best results you want a staff that has a high charge bonus built in so that you don't have to upgrade charge speed. You can occasionally find staffs with +5 or even +6 to shots fired, which you can't normally upgrade to (staffs max out at +4 when upgrading them).

I stick with around +40 and by manually clicking(without intentionally slowing your clicks) you already do about 75% more damage. I have yet to come across any staff besides... spook staff(?) to have more than 6 projectiles(basically +6) making 7 projectiles.

Currently I have a 54/56^ staff with +5 proj, +43 charge, 2359 damage, 84 elec. and my hero attack is 228 cause hes hybrid. Do about 240k dps in melee with GOOD timing.

i found a glass cannon App is exceptionally good. i entirly ignore my health and tower health for straight up damage both from my staff (Magic missle tower does 2100 damage with about 8000 damage per second while my staff deals about 170k dps depending on how well i charge.)

I totally have to agree that damage wise, the App is awesome, but even with 200 health it isn't much of an issue even after a while, i left it at zero and learned to dodge, dodging a Knight and shooting him with a OHKO shot is a lot better then taking the hit. i am sure if i can get better gear i will be even more powerful at that, but right now with a pristine set and 48 level staff i am pretty well laid out.

also mana bomb is useless once you get your damage high ^_^ a full charge does enough to clear out a swarm of orcs and knights in short order, as of right now my generic AoE (right click) does more damage then my mana bomb, but a high mana bomb is probably useful at some points.

Dodge and move, then put in the hurt.

Lets leave the balancing issues/debates to people who play the hardest diff and mode. No offense, but half your post screams "I havent made it passed lvl 20 on normal insane surv or lvl 15 MM insane surv, and quite frankly, thats being generous, as one stray arrow/fireball/or 2-3 DEW rushing you and you would be dead, which happens A LOT.

I mean... 700+ dews, 30% of them prolly have over 110k hp and you expect me to believe they are fodder?

I can solo insane MM on alch lab with a crappy geared 150-180ish dps app.... not that hard if you know to stay in the str drains... 25 waves and never loosing a wall works for me :P
