Gameplay UI and Camera needs some love

Recommended Posts

I am a new DDA player, I have played DD1 and DD2 before, and am writing this post mainly from the perspective of first impressions. I have looked through the settings to see if there is something hidden away in there to address these options, but could not find anything. If it does exist please let me know. I am also playing on Epic graphics settings.

The UI for most parts of the game in general feels off, but I will focus in on four key areas which I believe need improvement, and if improved would very much increase enjoyment of the game in most, if not all cases.

1. Tower health bar is not displayed in-game even if the tower is damaged. This means there is no way to know at a glance which defenses need help, requiring that you look at the tower directly and wait for the pop-up card, which can sometimes take several seconds. This doesn't feel good.

2. Tower upgrade level is not displayed in-game. Same problem as above requiring you to aim directly at the tower and wait for the pop-up card to know which towers you have not yet upgraded. This doesn't feel good.

3. Enemy spawn cards are difficult to discern. There appear to be some lighting affects on the enemy spawn cards for each door that make them look washed-out, blurry, and they effectively lose their silhouette entirely. This leads to looking at each door's spawns many times over to confirm I saw correctly, and does not feel good.

4. Tower build camera does not move higher when placing a tower. DD1's tower build camera was incredibly useful for very accurately and quickly placing your towers in the appropriate rotations. I find the current camera angle less intuitive, but also incredible squirely when placing towers in tight spaces where there is not a lot of room to adjust. Being able to shift the camera to a more bird's-eye perspective by zooming out with the scroll wheel would make tower placement feel much better.

This is in the game.  I believe the "T" key will toggle between the camera angles.
