I've been waiting nearly 3 years to play this game with friends, has this feature been implemented yet?

It is on the roadmap. That is all we know right now.

Not to speak for Chromatic, but from the outside looking in, it feels like content (and QOL) is currently the focus, not features such as: local co-op, cross play/save, etc.

They've mentioned that it's still in the works.  Unfortunately, cross-save seems to be more likely to be added first, simply because it will be easier to implement than splitscreen.

Sucks, local co-op is definitely a defining feature of the first game.

I would like to plat coop with somebody!

Assuming you aren't talking about split-screen, you can join the official Discord.  You can easily find players to join on whatever platform you play on.

Not sure when this happened, but "Split Screen Co-Op" is now on the roadmap page with an option to up-vote the development request -- as of this post, there are only 87 votes, so I suspect the addition of this to the roadmap is relatively recent compared with the others listed.

PLEASE UP-VOTE!!

Local co-op was such a huge part of the experience for me, my family, several friends -- this was absolutely a killer feature that seriously hurt this game's viability.  I mean, my kids loved playing with daddy, even the wife had multiple characters, and this was all a result of the local split-screen.  From this shared engagement, many hours were "invested" in the original DD  single player or online multiplayer just to prepare for these local split-screen sessions.  This type of game also benefits tremendously from in-person communication, and I personally feel the optimal game is realized only through local split-screen.

Played hundreds (if not thousands) of hours with the original DD.  Had no problem buying the expansions, and truly relished each, in large part because of that shared experience with family in friends.

I imagine the decision to not approach co-op for this long must stem from the improved graphics/engine, which I would guess built on DD2's engine/graphical framework.  I would pay double for this game were it to be far close to the older graphics as long as it had split-screen.  I am sure the technical hurdles are significant, but the split-screen was ABSOULTELY part of the secret sauce that made DD so popular.  It's unfortunate that the development team has opted to be silent/reserved regarding discussions on local co-op, like, transparency here regarding their hurdles and concerns would go a LONG way to fostering a connection with me/the community, and potential buy-in for whatever support the devs may need.

As the "Split Screen Co-Op" is listed under the Kickstarter section of the roadmap, I am left to assume the team needs some capital to put down the planning, time, and focus needed to make this happen.

Cross saves would be nice, but that won't bring me back to the game, and if there is no hope for split screen, there is no hope for me investing my time in building characters and playing this game.  And I am truly bummed by this prospect, the time my family and I spent with DD1 were packed with so many highlights/lingering memories, three of my children (three who were old enough, I have two who are now old enough and only get to hear how awesome DD1 was from their older siblings) still ask me if DDA has planned for split screen.

Some dialogue illuminating the nature of the challenge, the current status, and what sort of funding could facilitate a focus here would go a very long way.  This game really hit a sweet spot with many people, and personally one of the games I want to see become viable more than any other (not exaggerating).

Outline a development path, figure out what sort of support you would need financially from the community, and I have no doubt funding will flow in.  I for one would be one of the first to throw money down should that lead to split-screen.

For anyone reading this, please upvote "Split Sceen Co-Op" on Chromatic's DDA roadmap:

Thank you!!
