Networking and International Play

Recommended Posts

There is definitely something I'd like to know, as a previous backer of DD2. How crazy is the networking going to be? Particularly for international play. DD2 was... well... honestly pretty awful if someone wanted to play from... say... New Zealand with their friends in America. My ping was abnormal for international play, attacking was a lot slower, and overall the game had some issues performing long-distance. Is that likely to improve with DDA? The original game was honestly amazing for international play, so DD2's network response was... a bit of a shock.

The goal is to do peer to peer networking again for DD:A.  Having another game with server costs would hurt our small company pretty significantly.  There will still be some online bonus-y stuff that you'll have to connect to some server for, like possible cross-platform save support, but ultimately the hosting/playing will be client to client.

I hope there can be host migration :) and certainly some kind of grace to prevent leaving games of there's a little bit of network disruption
