Dungeon Defenders hangs on wave 18 (PS3)

I have tried to make it to level 20 on Foundries and Forge several times, on three different accounts and two different PS3s, but every time the game freezes up during wave 18. The music continues playing but the video and the PS3 in general is completely unresponsive.

My paranoid brain has even started to wonder if the horribly backed up queue of "Defeated defeated defeated" might cause a pointer overflow at some point, so I've waited enough between rounds for it to catch up but...no dice. Has anyone else experienced this or perhaps have any suggestions as to what to try at this point?

I have a similar problem that happens to me. It doesn't regularly freeze on a specific wave but it does always freeze in the upper 'teens. I have made it to wave 20 once, but every other time it has frozen before I have a chance to lose.

It has happened on both Survival mode and Pure Strategy. I always have it happen on the Magus Quarters, instead, though.

My suspicion was the ticker, too, since it would get upwards of an hour behind on announcing kills, but I am unable to confirm this. Any help would be appreciated, since I enjoy those modes.

I thought it was just me. I didn't know why it froze at wave 18 but I was pretty disappointed as I was showing no signs of a chance of being defeated. I was playing survival at Foundries & Forge on Hard.

I think it happened because your PS3 doesn't say Xbox 360 on it. Mine works fine everytime. Seriously, I did wonder about that ticker though myself I'm sure this will be addressed in our "SUPER DUBER UBER patch that the consoles will get soon. But in all seriousness its not all consoles just the playstation apparently. A friends of mine also had this issue so I rag on him too. Maybe try and wait for the ticker to catch up before starting a new wave perhaps that would help. Unless your playing it on build phase timer. Hope this gets adressed for you guys.

Actually, what if we turned off our network connection? Maybe its trying to do too much?

Second thought, what if its done on pure strategy? There would be less enemies ?

I hung up at wave 23 last night after 8+ hours.

I was at Alchemical Laboratory going for round 30, during the middle of wave I brought up the item/hero stat menu and everything stopped.

A little part of me died.

so if the problem is the frame rate... what if you placed your defenses to kill enemies really fast like on Alch Lab on pure Strategy? I had started deeper well but I went afk and came back being dead at wave 14...

But now im trying Alch Lab... im even online... we are at wave 16 and the only tiny bit of frame rate loss is at the beginning when they all span... will report more in a few hours...

I tried just that, locked up even sooner this time, not quite sure why? I made sure not to bring up any menu screen, still.. it froze. Let me know how it goes for you.

How about we try and create a baseline?

Those of you that have the oomph, try and play Foundries and Forge on Medium difficulty and see when/if it crashes, and at what level? I'm doing a run right now where I pause and let the ticker catch up completely between each level to see if that makes any difference.

tried the ticker strategy on deeper well, didnt help.

Did pure strategy on Alch Lab, crashed at 22.

Trendy, why you no look at this thread? We cant even get our trophies without it crashing. Actually I dont care about the trophies. I just want my damn Giraffe so I can get my damn chicken :)

I got to 23 on Alch Lab last night. It actually didn't freeze for me but there was a severe frame rate drop for the first half of every mob for the last few waves. The only way I was able to keep things going relatively smoothly was to optimize the build to kill everything as they spawned. This was a problem for the end opposite the crystal (on the high staircase), which I covered myself.

I noticed roughly monsters would pour out of that spawn for the first half of each mob, then dwindle to nothing. Maybe it'd help if monsters were more evenly distributed between spawns as I've noticed they tend to favor one or two, creating a huge log jam.

I was on pure strategy and trust me, there was no faster way to kill enemies as they came out... I crashed at 9500 / 11000.

What I dont understand is TE has been quiet about this issue. I know we are waiting for updates and patches but there isnt even a little note as to what the console will get patched with.

I know they arent leaving the console out of the equation but a little update as to what they are working on would be great. And the fact we are totally blocked off from getting the Giraffe right now is very very disappointing.

The fact we have to put well over 15 hours to reach it to only have the game crash constantly is very frustrating.

I support this game a lot. Hell, it even kept me from putting BF3 in my PS3 so far. But now that Im done with all challenges and all levels on insane and that Im almost done with all other trophies, I would like to be able to get my damn giraffe.

As for the game freezing during Survival I've only seen it happen once and that was during a game with my girlfriend. Her PS3 froze, but mine didn't so I was able to re-invite her to the game.

I haven't seen any issues since then and we've played plenty of Survival games.

Because its funny your quote, you seems to be the only player in the world with no freezes survival games.
And the leaderboard??? The actual cap its the wave 21 in ramparts (and im the 1st player), why they dont show your games???

Exact same problem here (PS3, wave 18, Foundries and Forges, local game, only 1 player). This is the 3rd time. I've tried various tower setups (aggressive and laid back), and it has taken anywhere from 8 hours to (just now) 15 hours. The game has over 7000 / almost 10,000 guys dead on wave 18 and screen freeze, music keeps repeating my shooting sounds. I have to kill the power to the PS3, the PS button doesn't even work.

Well the PC version on Steam has just been patched with a lot of updates and if I understood the patch notes, with some DLC as well. I wonder when we get it.

...or if.

Or just you know, any notice. They haven't even updated the announcement section.

I posted something similar in the general PS3 bugs thread, but that thing is so massive who knows what's getting read in there.

Anyway, every time I get to about 4000-5000 enemies killed on The Deeper Well, Wave 19 on Easy... I get this exact same problem.

Survival wave 20 on medium is one of the last trophies I need. It's really easy for me to get through, but I've tried the first 5 maps several ways each and the game just flat out freezes up before I can get to wave 20. Frustrating. Just give me the trophy. It's impossible for me to get because of the bugs in the game.
