Looks to me like an old one.  How did you get the eye to appear?

Well, I'm simply lose the match ;) Was at the incursion though. I haven't tried the Expedition version yet to see if it's the same.

Ooh, nice! I didn't that there was a key. Perhaps you could try the cache of loot in the cave/room that's quite nearby to the eldritch crystal.

yeah no luck trying to open any chest so far. also i dont see that eye, how you get it to appear

There are around 2 hats on skeletons and 3 just lying around.  You can interact with them, but one up higher has a key.  It's the only one worthwhile from what I've seen.

There is a "dig" spot in the same hidden cave with the crystal as well.  On the bottom left of the large pile of treasure.  It doesn't do anything with or without the key.

Already known knowledge (not found by me), but I figured I would add this to this thread. 

On top of the tallest pillar on the east side of the minimap, above the hidden key location. There is a graffiti of a crystal with eyes and wings. Just wanted to add this here for anyone who just started searching for things.

Could you elaborate on the location of the "dig" spot? All I can find is an old boat steering wheel.

Ah, found what you were talking about. There is no marker, just the "inspect" button.

Well, just lose the map, which will begin the ritual, and you'll see the eldritch goodness.

Yeah, I would really love to know what the key does....

Oh yeah, I am wondering, it was mentioned that this update is an update. However, its packaged as an expansion? Hmm....

We had a bet around the office about how quickly you all would figure these things out. I guessed it would be 100% discovered by the end of the first day. I'm out 20 bucks, by the way...

Here are screenshots.  First post, Pirate Hats that don't really do anything:

Key location that you have to climb up to.

Pirate Captain Message.  Still doesn't seem to do anything but more interesting than the other hats.

This is all of the hat locations.

Your top right one might be a bit off.  Is that the one in the hidden cave?

Also, the key may not do anything until wave 5.  That's how it's been on previous hidden things.

I'm a bit lost on this super secret thing. I've spent hours scouring the entirety of the map, from the highest point you can actually go to, to glitching out underneath and flying around to see if any secrets lie below. I've tried pressing E with the key "buff" active on I think every object on the map. No dice. This secret is very well hidden, but if this is some call of duty esque thing where you have to do something completely obscure and asinine I'll be very disappointed.

Keep searching friends. We shall find the secret eventually.

Did you happen to get under the boat somehow and check around there?  That's the only place I've been wondering about since there are some chests and things.

Players always let devs down.  Should have put the clues where the optimal placement of beehives are located. :P

This was mentioned but...boy oh boy. I didn't know that this is pretty mysteriously eerie! Yeah, definitely should count for something! Nice of you to put the pic.

Ive been searching through the whole map now, ive only found the hats and key so far. 

Could it be some kind of sequence in which you have to inspect the hats? I remember in dungeon defenders 1 there was a map to get Obsidian swords. There you had to do a secret press a certian sequence of turtles to get loot.

I thimk its the case here too
