Think I'm gonna uninstall until this 3 map thing is done away with.

Recommended Posts

Just too demoralizing to play this mode.  Even getting to the lost temple, if I'm having trouble with it, or if I disconnect, or if I take too long and I have to attend to RL matters, I'm back to the start.  It's just not worth it anymore.  I don't always have time to play this many maps at once and the game spits on me for my failure.

Hope it improves soon.

Regrettably I feel the same.    The thought of playing through 2.5 maps only to fail and not have time to replay has sucked my love for the game out of me.

i just hope to reach Floor 120 faster so i can reset ... i have 9 more days free from work and if i don't get to that floor to reset it's preety bad for me (resetting without 200 minimum ascension is painfull too). Unfortunately my mate get's disconected very often :)

But i don't give up hope so fast.

Though I definitely ain't gonna uninstall, but I, too, have to say that the three maps thing just ain't cutting it.

I enjoy, the one or two maps during my reset runs, but definitely not three. Got really sick of 'em 'cause I got a high dose of 'em in the form of 60 till 114. I wouldn't mind that if I have buddies to play with. But I'm solo-ing mostly, which is quite painful and boring to me overtime.

The problem with the three maps thing is 'cause it's very different from Trials. In Trials, you know what the schedules is in every lane one shot. Thus you could just build quite fast.

While in Onslaught, there's schedules mash-up and mutators to be aware of and how to counter them with the right builds, it just takes time. Especially with the Lost Temple.

I actually never expected a floor would consist of two or three maps.

Here is my short list with the reasons why all Onslaught floors need to be 1 map:

- Disconnecting/game crashing for any reason forces you back to map 1 of the same floor (huge issue to be honest, some floors take over an hour and losing all that progress is terrible)

The time it takes to beat a single floor is way too high

- It makes no sense that some floors are 1 map, others 2 and most are 3, what is the logic and benefit of that?

- The rewards are minimal compared to the time we have to invest

I don't feel you  bros, cause I haven't started ancient powering yet, I am still doing my masteries, I have 9 maps left, but I have reached 67 very casually, and it doesn't seem so much of an issue. It takes me around 45 mins to clear a floor so I break it down for whenever I can play. In my opinion saving would make it too easy. But am gonna trust you on this, so maybe it needs a bit clipping. However I am planning to reach 114, and then just keep on reseting like there is no tomorrow until I am fed and then go for highest floor and then get bored, and then rinse and repeat.

It took me a minimum of an hour and a few more minutes to clear a floor ;)

But wow! In 45 min! Nice!

But it's also the losing that makes it painful too. I started the Floor 89 Lost Temple at 12 am, losing and fixing my mistakes and reroll-ing all the way till 4 am.

I got stuck around 57-58, but once I started putting more things in the mix, I am pretty much clearing everything from the start. I do however have pretty much OP gear, cause I used to farm a lot, so most of my gear is like 22500 with 9.5 secondary stats. Oh yeah and Dryad does indeed help a lot, but i like to put a few more things in, for example if a lane doesn't have cy's I always put a frost beam in front so it zaps em the moment they get out, or if a lane does have cy's and frosties, I usually put a PDT behind or something else to help out. Anyway I will have more to say when the floors start getting tougher

I'm on the fence about the 3 maps with no save feature. I think Onslaught is meant to be difficult, and it's meant for those that don't mind the grind. The 3 map rule is what makes Onslaught unique (and of course the mutators). If it was simply one map, it would be called Trials. I believe getting to 114 and obtaining the Final Form flair would be much less rewarding if I was allowed to do it one map at a time. I understand that some people simply don't have time for this, but it really doesn't take all that much time. I'm in the 80's right now (finished Mastery before moving on to Onslaught) and it takes me just under an hour per floor. That's just casually strolling around the map and being mindful of mutators/schedules, and I have AFK'd every single wave so far. If I made it a point to rush through the build and actively DPS, I could probably cut that down to 3/4 of an hour. Of course things are made easier because I farmed Trials for gear and ascension (around 560 ascension and over 6k gearscore on all fully geared heroes used now), then I farmed Mastery for the hyper shards...but this stuff is available to everyone. If someone is having trouble in Onslaught or simply want to move through it quicker, maybe gear is the issue? Don't have Viscious Strikes yet? Needing that Mass Destruction? Or maybe it's because you don't have the correct heroes yet? I also farmed through these and bought them all with medals (except the Barb...Trendy got my hard earned cash for him.) Trendy has put everything in place for you to advance through Onslaught with no problems just the way it is...it just takes hard work and effort. That's why it's so special to be up there on the leaderboards. Playing 1 map at a time...not so much. In my opinioin, that may ruin it and take that feeling of accomplishment away. It would also make Ancient Power resets less of an accomplishment in the process...which I plan to do once I reach my goal floor.

The REAL problem with Onslaught is the disconnects and the black screens. This has happened to me a few times, but the disconnects have gotten better and I've only had the black screen once. I simply deal with it knowing that Trendy is currently working on the DC's.

Gear up, shard up, farm heroes. Get to the point where the only "problem" with Onslaught will be something that's out of your control. :-)

i was on the same page to implement a Save button ... but ... now that i dedicated just 1 week (5-7 hours per day) i went from Floor 72 to 92 (20 Floors in 6 days) ... tomorrow i don't have time even a minute... so next week i hope i'll climb to 114 ... now that i am here i am not so sure a Save at every map would be smart ... Onslaught should put more dificulty on players than just a Trials with ascending dificulty.

In conclusion, i am half for and half against squire_small.png

Edit: Forgot to mention ... we had Disconnects almost daily, sometimes more times per day ... that's why 5-7 hours per day.

Why would it be easier with a save funktion? It's just stupid to be forced to play sometimes over 2 hours without a break. The game is in a sad state imo. Ancient power system not fun at all and way to grindy and onslaught with no save and no highest floor save if you reset.

3 map floors are a huge downer for casual players or players with more RL commitments. Very rarely do I get the time to do a three map run.

1. We need to be able to join on any map on floors, not just on map 1 that is just plain stupid.

2. we need to have a save point on 3 map floors

I think, I wouldn't mind this, had the multiplayer system been better. I think most of my problem in onslaught could've been solved had I have someone watching my back as I mostly solo anyway.

But then, this is a product of a non save system. I remember, at floor 113, I've reaching the Lost Temple and it's wave 5, but I had to take dinner, so I just leave for a short while, turns out I left for a bit longer and I got afk-kicked. I've tried using afk-kick preventive measures like putting a cup on the keys or a hard disk on a mouse. It didn't work.

Then...I tried another time after dinner. I did made it till the lost temple, only to lose at wave 5 twice, by that time I had other things that must be done. So I didn't have time to fix my mistake again. (The mistakes we're quite simple to fix actually)

And I returned back to doing 113 again, which then will be the most frustrating and painful run night I had in Onslaught yet.

Reached the Lost Temple again. The first roll, took me quite some tries but in the end, I couldn't, so I decided to reroll. Again, the roll just sucks. Tried some tries, but still just couldn't. So I reroll again. This time the roll looks good. But....later proved to be quite overwhelming. By that time, I had pals ready to hit 114, they were willing to wait  but not that long though, but I just couldn't beat that roll, so I let them go on without me.

And also, by that time, I was already quite frustrated. I, then, rerolled another time. The rolls doesn't look promising. But I give it a try anyway. Still lost. Give a few more tries, just doesn't work. It' already 5 something a.m. and no more rerolls, so I just had to quit.

So in the end I ended up I couldn't sleep, thinking of those runs I could've beat before the painful runs and the frustrations of the painful run.

Of course I manage to beat 113 and 114 the next day, but due to lack of sleep, I caught a heavy cold.

But still, there are time that could've been saved had there been a save system. And maybe I could have some pals to help me if map 2 and 3 were join-able.

It's very easy to talk about "saving onslaught progress" but how would you actually do that in a multiplayer session?

During my grind between floors 60 and 123 time was never my concern, I always planned ahead and never started a floor if I had less than 90 minutes left (Which is very generous and even allows you a few replays).

That being said, my game crashed exactly two times between those floors... it can be very frustrating when it happens but fortunately my crashes were also very rare so I just shook it off and did that floor once more.

I actually like the fact you have to do three maps in a row in limited time to show that you really beat a difficulty and not just rerolled/replayed for hours until you finally beat it.

I'd even go as far as setting a 120 minutes countdown timer to beat all three maps, otherwise you fail the floor.

EDIT: Sorry little clarification on my end, I didn't mean like an actual timer in-game just a personal goal to set for yourself.

Well that's your experience other have more frequent crashes and disconnects some have none at all. And not everyone wants to speed run through maps. I actually like to try new placements new combos etc. not rush through as fast as possible using Dryad meta.

I also like the 3 map to finish in temple but when it sometimes takes over 2hours with no option to save it's not possible for many players to play at all.

The problem is disconnect/kicks with nothing to save progress. I have been kicked over 200 times and over 33 since Barbarian's Wrath update. Getting to round 5 The Lost Temple and then freezing after respawn, definitely demotivating. There needs to be an auto-save/replay-current-floor fail-safe feature.

Until then, Alienation. United Staes was in 24th place, now 14th Internationally. I landed first in the Bronze and Silver league. Landed Gold league and now pressing for 1st. We need more U.S. players!

Taking a long break from DD2. The crashes/freezes should have been fixed long ago. Not sure I'm coming back. What's left?

We have played 97-107 so far and no freezing or crashes at all. PS4 2 player West server mostly. Its about an hour a floor now

I'm done with the game until my progress saves after playing 1 map.

Came back after a long break, did a couple floors and was swiftly reminded why I stopped playing..

It is not just the "act" of being disconnected or being kicked to menu.

It is the whole "feeling" of HAVING TO DO 3 MAPS in a ROW!

Just terrible game design.

"Hey want to play?"

"Sure!"

"Do you have 3 hours worst case scenario? If not you might not progress at all ! "

(if you DC one time during that time you are ***ed by the way)

"Errr??"

Has anyone here played Gears of War --- specifically the horde mode in it? For those who are not familiar, horde is a cooperative-based game mode that asks you and your squad to survive against waves and waves of the locust/swarm horde from wave 1-50 and it gets progressively more difficult as the waves increase. Generally you can expect the length from start to finish to be two hours. From what I have seen and heard from DD2, 2 hours seems to come up the most when talking about how long a 3-map onslaught floor takes.

The reason I bring up Gears of War horde mode is because it shares a flaw with onslaught. It takes too long; it demands too long of a session. As much as I enjoyed horde, there were a lot of times where I simply could not play it because I did not have 2 hours of uninterruptible time. So I really did not want to start a match when dinner was coming up, or when it is getting around the time to take out the garbage, clean up, etc etc --- even to get up and take a piss since there wasn't a lot of time between waves. The biggest and most painful problem of public horde was that people would leave the match sometimes not even 10 waves in and as a result the whole thing is a bust. Soloing it is not particularly fun, and neither is repeating waves 1-10 over and over because everybody keeps on leaving but man the later waves get more hectic and more enjoyable.

The difference between horde and onslaught is that horde was built from the ground up with the identity that it has 50 waves. It has 50 in all the games it has appeared in. Onslaught however is a completely new mode with a completely new identity. Before onslaught develops an identity in the eyes of players, I'd like to see such an arbitrary time restriction removed. There is nothing engaging about a mandatory 2 hour uninterruptible session. And when I stop and think about the games I pull 8+ hour sessions with I realize that I do take brakes for chores, food, etc. But in those other games they at least allow you the decency to be able to carry on like a human being without losing progress.

The majority of the time, I don't mind the 3 map limit.  The problem is when I have limited time and can't really progress if I'm in a 3 map floor. I don't think removing the 3 map floors is a solution, but maybe those floors can have a checkpoint where it saves progress to map 3.

LOL.

Its VERY hard to plan ahead on onslaught.  To many different combinations with mutators for that.

You said time was never a concern for you.  Great! But not everyone has your schedule.

A timer is a terrible idea and here's why:

First, the majority of the players play on Private, which kinda sucks.

Second, when you do play with randoms, a lot of times then never hit "G" and you have to wait for the timer between waves.

Lastly, with that being said, it would only further encourage people to play privately.  As far as i'm aware, they encourage multiplayer.

What would be the point of the timer anyway?  To get people to play faster....?  why?

If you failed this timer, wouldn't you just be rerolling/replaying anyway? lol
