Awful community and game mechanics that support griefing

Recommended Posts

Second time that I get kicked in the final wave of Halloween Hard for absolutely NO reason. No ninja looting, I'm actively dpsing and repairing full time, and I use a fully upgraded godly Van Wolfenstein that yields over 81k DPS.

I easily had the most dmg of anyone in this last game. Never said a word other than stuff like "ok, repair up" and such between waves. I joined on wave 7 and right as wave 11 is about to start I get kicked. No feedback, no constructive criticism. Just a "forcibly removed from the game" message.

I'm getting tired of this community, it's almost getting as bad as LoL's. There's no reason to play multiplayer other than with friends, everything is faster solo and you don't have to worry about children. Too many 15 year olds and people who don't know how to communicate. If you don't want me to play a DPSer, speak up. I have four different 70s.

Guy probably wanted to bring his other char in via split screen for an extra reward.

Just do what I do. Either play by yourself or play with friends. The internet is full of scumbags and it gets worse every day.

The gaming community here outright sucks, you're just now realizing that? Play DD with your friends or just solo it.

You could host your own lobby and do a part in making it better by not kicking people that don't deserve it. You don't have to worry about connection on ranked since I think it uses Trendy's servers.

I haven't randomed grouped yet. I've been duo or trio with friends but being forcibly removed doesn't sound like fun, (wouldnt even know how to do that myself).

81K VW i'm jealous hehe i've some work cut out for me yet to get a better one :)

Once you're visited more then a handful of internet communities, you realize that there is only one community, and it's all ruled by the same simple equation.

nope. the latency is based on the host, so if you have a host with bad internets (like me), then the rest of the players will lag to hell

There is a lot of stuff that you just can't solo if you're still working your way up the food chain, i.e. you haven't already spent inordinate amounts of time farming up all that awesome gear. And if your friends are like mine, then they (and you) probably have a life and don't always have the exact same hours of free time.

So although "play with friends or solo" is a viable solution, that shouldn't be the end-all alternative to game mechanics that can help avoid such idiocy in public online multiplayer. For example, there is a thread now in the Suggestions Forum that I support, with the idea that kicking people should be disallowed during the Combat Phase because you can't replace them until the next Build Phase anyway. If there is a leecher present or otherwise someone not pulling his weight then kicking them during combat will have little advantage.

I have personally never had any serious issue with the community, and I join plenty of random custom games.

I don't understand how you can really call the community specifically bad, as if it is something special. DD and LoL are unique communities filled with scumbags and ****weeds that you make it out to be-- that's just the Internet as a whole. There's good and bad on the Internet, although it is more often bad. Welcome to Internet gaming. You take the good, you take the bad, and there you have the Facts of Life.

unfortunately, thats the internet these days. If you don't want to waste your time playing 3 waves only to get kicked on the last, you have to play alone or with friends. Your best option is to find people to play with on the forums, most of the people here seem to be decent. Any game I play, I play with friends.

Always host your own games then and the problem is solved. Also if you aren't going to talk at all in the random games you do join why are you bothering to join them if you act like you're playing solo anyways? On the rare occurrence I do join a public game it's to just chat with people, ask advice or give advice etc. I think you are your own problem here.

Not everyone joins public multiplayer games just to chat. I've joined some simply because I want to get through a map and difficulty that I simply can do neither solo nor with my friends.

I agree that it is a douch thing to kick someone mid wave, however removing the ability to kick people from the game you created just opens up even more griefing.

Its not the fault of community - its not a fault of humanity. Human nature is human nature. Its been there before game mechanics have been designed. If multiplayer gets ugly, it means game mechanics are bad. You cant code game and then blame the human nature for not being different.

Actually it's got more to do with parents refusal to beat their kids and teach them manners than it does with human nature. When I was young, I was beaten, and I was taught manners. I'm a better person for it.

Thanks for sharing your story, however i dont think that beaing beaten makes you saint or even a better person. Humans are egoists by nature. If you say you are not egoist you are either lying to us, or to yourself.

Game mechanics are the tool to turn egoism into cooperation and fun for all participants. To encourage good behaviors and disencourage bad behaviors. Thats how it should work.

Cooperation with strangers, where your fun is very dependant on them is disencouraging to even try it. Its wisdom long known that reward works better than punishment. If the only reason why people should cooperate while playing with others is the perspective of punishment while doing it poorly/not doing it at all (what leads to defeat), you will not motivate people.

Make people get bonuses by cooperating - encourage people to build support structure. In current game's shape you are encouraged only to build dps and kill as much as yoiu can before others do so. Being selfish grants you best profits - i ask: why not making game mechanics that benefit support players? Make mobs yield experience and score to everyone that have influenced them anyhow before they died - that means reward granted to both the one who dmg them, to the one who slows/stun/stop(blockade/barrickade) them etc. The current mechanics are just awkward and not well thought trough.

As always, I'm hosting friendly games with one rule: don't loot unless its green or yellow. You can find my steam profile link in my sig.

I agree.

Also, the moon landings were faked, evolution and global warming are lies, Obama is the antichrist, abortion is murder, and those Occupy Whatever hippies need to get a job.
