Any of you guys recently tried DD2?

Recommended Posts

I would like to know how that game compares to DD1, has anyone here spent enough hours on both in order to compare and let me know of the pros and cons of each game? Is it worth investing time and money or just stick to DD1?

Well, I'll throw my two cents out there.  I've been playing DD1 for several years.  I did give DD2 a try but strangely enough, my biggest hurdle was the artwork.  I love the way DD1 looks and I don't like the way DD2 looks at all.  I didn't have any complaints about DD1 so I kept with it.  DD2 just couldn't win me over.

I have played both games on multiple platforms for many many hours. Both have pros and cons and even though both titles have the same premise there are some distinct differences between them.

DD1

5 levels of difficulty with hardcore options and other modifiers.

DD2 campaign 2 lvls difficulty then chaos with 7 lvls of difficulty no hardcore or options to alter modifiers

 DD1

Pets have significant role in your hero build with stats or their attacks

DD2

Pets only really useful for their abilities

DD1

Challenges good way to get special gear or pets and can be farmed for better drops

DD2

Incursions are usually just run once to "unlock" a special weapon then these can be bought again when you gain better stats

DD1

gear drops depend on map and level of difficulty - new player can leech end game gear

DD2

gear drops completely rely on the best equipped hero you currently have in your hero deck - going to highest levelof difficulty will not give you end game gear if new player

DD1

You can only use 1 hero at a time

DD2

You can select up to 4 heroes to play at any one time and any of these can be "hot-swapped" during the wave.

DD1

Any map higher than hard will have a build timer

DD2 other than some mastery maps no build timer unless a players presses G (start on console)

DD1

heroes are usually just either builders or DPS

DD2

Heroes initially spec into 1 twer or one type of dps as you gain ascension (through xp after lvl 50) yo can easily hybrid and have all towers and dps equally viable.

DD1

Full map choice for any level of difficulty

DD2 only in campaign or mastery is there any map choice. Each level of chas has a selection of maps which are fixedbut when you play RNG decides which of the selection you get. Incursions (DD2's alternative to challenges) are also fixed to choas tier 2 per tier.

DD1

No real specialisation really of heroes

DD2

Heroes can be tailored more to your playstyle through shards which are aquipped to gear weapons and relics(for towers) which focus generally on one ability or aspect of the hero/tower

DD1

Gearon floor is shared amongst all players on map and will disappear if not picked up or at end of wave

DD2

each player gets their own gear drops and gear will stay on floor until the end of the wave. You can set which types of drops you want to collect automatically - pets, weapons etc and the quality of them

DD1

all man chest contain a small amount of mana and can be picked by any player.

DD2

Less chests but more mana is dropped and each player can only pick from one chest - the total amount of mana is spread equally amongst all players.

DD1

Heroes are switched at the forge

DD2

Heores are switched on your inventory page there is no forge

DD1

Private taverns only but have displays of trophies, any items on floor for display

DD2 private and public taverns(which host up to 20 ppl at a time).Private taverns though are pretty plain - no trophies or possiilities to show off you nice farmed gear.

DD1

Host has full control with kicking players and can sell other peoples towers easily

DD2

Kicking can ony be done with 3 or 4 players and is done by unamous vote ie if 3 players 2 people must both vote t kick the 3rd. You can only sell a players towers after they leave or is kicked

DD1

If a player leaves/kick the towers keep their stats

DD2 if the player leaves/kick the towers lose all extra stats to a basic lvl 50 hero with no gear.

DD1

Xp is based on how much you build of if you just DPS

DD2

XP is the same for every player regardless on if building dps or even completely afk.

DD1

mana dropped is shared between hero abilities and upgrading/building towers

DD2

seperate mana is given to heroes - ability mana which is slowly restored over time for abilities/healing

DD1

main currency is mana for upgrading etc

DD2

3 types of currency - defender medals, gold and gems(bought with real money). medals and gold are used for buying or upgrading gear, gems is mostly for costumes(skins) as well as a few items purchasable for both medals and gems

DD1

Trading between players is a main focus for attaining gear or mana

DD2

At present NO TRADING

DD1

Most of the game was client based allowing for easy hacking but also allowed players to design their own maps and challenges

DD2

Almost all of the game is server side making hacking extremely difficult(nothing is impossible xd), but also means no workshop or played designed content.
