Does anyone else think assasins ruin the fun?

Recommended Posts

I'm doing c5 and i do the bosses ez but after i kill everything i have to kill the 11 flyers , so after i kill everything i have to waste 2 mins of my time killing the flying assassins. It's not hard to kill its just long to kill.Towers don't do jack dmg to them, sometimes they don't even get hit by towers even if they're on the ground, and they are super tanky. There is so many of them for a person who is soloing. Also when you're trying to kill one you can't because another one just jumped on you so you can't use abilities or auto attack and when your about to finish one off they get full hp and repeat the proccess. It's not challenging it's just boring and a time killer. They either need to be nerfed or die all together and by the way they're are flying mobs yet when you freeze them they don't instantly die like other flying mobs.

Also you know how they increase core hp to avoid female orcs from one shotting it because they walk through barricade, so it gives you time to stop them. Now try stopping them when you can't auto attack or use abilities or go to close to the core because a assassin is attacking you.Try doing it when your dead, you will always die to assassins unless u got abyss lord healing fountain down, but it's no fun playing one hero your whole c5 run...

Hey there,

A lot of folks have recommended simply skipping C5 due to the assassins.  That being said, I have used another persons recommendation to create a kill zone specific to assassins.  My kill zone usually consists of high stun and damage.  Towers stun them easily enough, and then drop them just as quickly in dps.  This has worked fairly well for me, perhaps it is an option for you, too.

So you are successfully beating it. But want it to be easier?

Maybe change up your tower kill zones so you can focus them down faster?

There are plenty of CC abilities that will force the assassins stay longer than their initial duration.

Why not try to focus down the assassins mid wave, instead of letting them all stack up?

I'm focusing on siege rollers, and i am focusing them down whenever i can. There is only so much space you can move before you accidentally go to close to one of your towers and it gets destroyed by the assassin to close the the core or to close to a pack of mobs.Theres to many for a solo player and the tower don't target them at all, i'm mainly talking about ramsters.using stuns in c5 is useless because of those mobs with shields and it's a waste of green mana, and also it's not to make it easier but to make it shorter, i already beat the wave i just need to kill 11 flyers left over.

Okay, so you are mainly using ramsters which you know don't damage them. Then try something else?

In one of your lanes at least?

Ramsters are powerful in c5 , everything else etheir does little dmg has little range or doesn''t burst.

Okay. I guess the enemies are the problem then. Even though you are beating the level.

Agree, 100%.

I don't like assassins and I would like to see them gone. And it has nothing to do with wanting the game to be "easier" because assassins are already easy to beat. They are just annoying. They're not fun. They are anti-fun. The last few times I played I was on C6 and totally forgot all about assassins and I was running around killing hex throwers and then some assassins spawned on me.

It wasn't an "oh ***!" moment.

It wasn't uh oh I'm going to lose now because I didn't plan for assassins.

It wasn't oh this game is so much harder with assassins.

I still easily beat the map. I didn't have to alter my build at all to deal with assassins.

The only thing that happened was that I went from having fun playing the game, to not having fun "playing" the game. I put that word in quotes because assassins don't really let you "play" the game. To me they are nothing more than an obstacle, blocking you from being able to "play" the game.

Assuming your Hero DPS has enough Armor to deal with your current tier they are easily negated.

Get a pet with a Stun or CC ability, and use the Mystic's Barricades (since they CC them) and you can easily peel them.   Or Drop some geysers... or use Stun Cannons, or any other CC.   When you see that purple mist start swirling you either get ready to use your pet's stun or if its on cooldown run to a CC zone.   I think there is a thread that lists all the abilities/tower specs that peel them off you,

At first I hated them,  now they are barely even a thought.  They are very easy to deal with once you learn how.

But in all honesty... my wife can attest I used to also *** about how they ruined the game! :)

Overcoming a challenge is rewarding.   That lends some fun to a hard game.   It's why the Dark Souls series is so popular.

At first Assassins kick your ass and you lose the game cause they spawned at the wrong moment.   Later they spawn and  you mow them down in 2 seconds.   I hated them at first, but I think they are a great addition to the game as they add some non-symmetric play-style requirements.

That being said if they are lasting 2 minutes like the OP said than he is doing something wrong.   So advice on how to deal with them is more productive and helpful

Of course they are easy to beat. That doesn't mean they are fun.

I m chaos 7player and I can not say that assassins are anyhow fun or challenging, they never kill me [not even when i was c5] they just annoy the sht out of people in unfair way.

There is not dodge spell to dodge theyr teleport skillfully or anything like that.
If you have higher ping [100+] you do not even see the assassin mark and just get jumped on instantly.

They have also tons of hp what makes 0 sense,i can kill c7 steam roller boss faster than stuned assassin.

i can kill 10 steam rollers faster than 10 assassins..I like to go around the map having fun dpsing stuff, they are just a anti fun thing, if you could dodge their stun and cc i wouldn't mind because it would just be another thing to cc, but it's so anti fun.

I would like to know what tactic you are using. I can kill w/e number of assassins afk. But 10 siege rollers in the same time, that is impressive.

I just ice needle burst them down doesn't take long at all, they move slow, and you can easily avoid bombs.

I'm a member of the rollers are manageable but assassins suck category.   Assassins don't really add to the style of game play and just ruin the fun.  Rollers aren't a huge amount of fun either but I can tolerate them.

It's like not building any anti-air defenses, and then complaining how troublesome the air enemies are. Please just try as what @Tempei suggests, then you will have a better time dealing with assassins.

This topic has been beaten to death since their creation and has been pretty polarizing (although you seem to be only getting the pro-assassin players lol)... so I'll try to keep this short (for my standards).

In my own opinion, yes, assassins take away from the fun. They are essentially an unavoidable stat check. There are only a few things that "help" with assassins, and most of these things that "help" are largely shifting the stat checks from one area to another (i.e. a "killbox" shifts more of the stat check to your tower stats). In the end, assassins end up as either this monster that you can't overcome (because you failed the stat check and need to grind more) or a mild nuisance that you pretty much ignore.

The only "challenge" I faced with dealing with assassins was fighting my urge to stop playing huntress because she has a bad health scaling and a full set of HP/AP gear felt just unsatisfying to play... Past that I let C4 gear AFK the map while I healed walls waiting for the silence to end... only for another one to start (thank god they finally added the delay...).

Actually funny seeing this thread... because I've been ignoring the assassins for so long, that I had almost forgotten how much I hated them till the other day when I started trying some of the incursion maps again. You know what makes DPS-ing a boss on a timer more fun and challenging? Having a silence you can't avoid CC you for half of it. Or better yet, remember that bottles of fun that is spamming towers 24/7 while they blow up every 35 seconds? Let's add the occasional 5 seconds of you not being able to do anything but watch a lady orc run straight to the core while you can't interact with the game.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of a mob that targets specifically the player and hunts us down with impunity. But an unavoidable stat check is something that I just don't see as ever being interesting or indicative of fun. Challenges require player thought and interactions. Assassins are literally designed to remove our interaction.

But hey... just my two cents.

Strongly agree. That unavoidable silence is just annoying and boring. The assassins in DD1 were much more fun and they encourages skillful gameplays. We could deal with assassins in many ways, like dodging their attacks, knocking them back, making use of terrain, killing them quickly before they jump on us.

I keep saying this over and over :\ Siege and Assassins are just plain terrible.

Siege + Assassins at the same time is (I assume) the same as having a rabid raccoon clawing your face off as he chews your eyes while your wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend/partner Yells at you to take the garbage out when she/he/they can perfectly do it themselves.

The major problem with assassins in DD2, that's a key point for basically everyone that hates them, is that there's no preemptive counter-play, it's all reactive. You can't prevent an assassin from attacking you, you can only get them off once they're on you.

For an enemy type that specifically targets your hero, your hero itself has the LEAST interaction out of anything against an assassin. Even pets can do more to stop an assassin than you can.

I think it would be more productive to the playstyle of the rest of the game, if the assassin enemies rather than having an instantaneous unstoppable teleport, instead flew across the map manually, but were unable to be targeted by towers until they began attacking the player. However, also making them targetable by the player.

In short, they wouldn't teleport, but they would fly faster, towers can't shoot them until they attack but the player can. With a potential HP increase.

This still gives the player good reason to not stand still, as they would get swarmed by assassins, but gives you the ability to dodge them for a little while, of course they would move fast enough to eventually catch you if they don't get attacked. But it allows you to combat them yourself rather than sitting in a killzone waiting to get jumped on.

As with rollers it's the same response learn a decent strategy and basically "git gud"

Not all challenges in games or elsewhere are 'fun' some require a level of perseverance.

Except there is no challenge in Assassins. When you're undergeared it comes down to "let me sit in my little area until they're all dead and then I can finally do something in the game" and when you're decently geared they basically cease to exist. There's no challenge there what-so-ever.

They bring nothing worth while to gameplay - they just make it tedious and really quite dull when you have to spend most of every wave standing around waiting for them.
