Xbox One Backwards Compatability

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am just wondering if there are any plans to add DD-1 to the backwards compatabile list on XBOX One.

From what I've heard it's all run on an emulator so you wouldn't have to reprogram the game for xbox one of anything. It can just stay the same and be brought forward for us old players to enjoy the old game.

It would also be nice to have a DD game on XBOX One, since I presume we wont be getting DD2 anytime soon.

TIA.

Someone can correct me on this, but I don't think Trendy really does anything with DD1 anymore besides pushing updates from the CDT members and minor assistance.  But I'm not 100% sure someone could re-correct me.

I think that is correct also. I am pretty sure other than some CDT updates, DD will stay as is for a long time, if not forever.

From what I have heard, Trendy sort has moved on from dealing dd1 / dde

Yeah people have been asking for this for a while... Tbh I don't think it's gonna happen. DD on Xbox is dead, only hackers and people that have "legit" items that have no clue how to play the game are on it now with some actual good players.

Xbone backwards compatibility requires some kind of work on the part of the developer (i.e. it's not just "put it up on the shop"). I doubt Trendy has the resources to put toward that even if they want to right now.

It would require a period of updating to the games code to make it compatible with Xbone's OS and a few other things like optimizing it for hardware and renderer settings. Not something that would take long, necessarily, but something that's very complex, too complex for Trendy to spare the manpower right now to do it.  At the moment you might want Trendy to give DD1 some TLC for PC and Mac, specifically around some of its hard coded hardware/software limitations to address memory allocation, CPU and GPU performances, going from there, doing console updates would be a bit simpler and quicker.

Secondly there's a much larger issue where the build of Unreal Engine 3 they have is sorely outdated and is missing a lot of stuff to make it even more compatible with newer consoles. So.. that's a silver bullet to any kind of quick and smart update for backwards compatibility.

Actually xbox just needs them to say, OK go ahead, as xbox1 has a 360 emulator so it dosent need them to do anything such as porting etc. And the only effort needed would be them saying its OK for xbox to emulate it legally. This would also help fund DD2 from people buying it in the store to play again.

Acctually xb1 has a 360 emulator so no it dosent need code changed or anything, because of the emulator, also, the only effort needed by them is for them to say, xbox can legally emulate it, and sell it on the store, which would help fund DD2.

So no optimization is required.
