Pet abilities post patch - the list

Recommended Posts

All eggs can be purchased for 7.5K medals, except Betsy for 10k. Here the abilities for the ones you can purchase, some of the other special ones, and some old favs. Thanks Gelostar and Miindless for the additions. I think this is all done, but do tell if I missed one.

I wish they had made the pet abilities more interesting and useful rather than just jacking up the cooldown on everything.

I hope this is only the start of the pet pass because pets in DD2 are boring as heck compared to DD1.

"Stranglethorn" seems to be one unique ability Ive found for Grumpy, I don't see it listed as one of Earth nor Dragon specific abilities on the wiki, never rolled it on any other of those pets either.

that one is rare, but I think it is an earth ability. I rolled it recently trying to get sandstorm.

Gato Fireworks is for any cat type.

Love this pet change even though its technically a nerf for myself (as I only used Dragolitch, when I even used pet abilities) its the best change I could expect and hopefully now I can play with more fun and interesting pets!

@Dewkin quote:

so can we make a conclusion on the goto pet ability or are they all pretty balanced now?

they are better balanced - but the best old ones are still the best ones now for DPS. I wouldn't stress on this too much as they are still tweaking, and right now too many depend on HD and don't scale off other stats.

Dracho is still all by itself - any critter hit is affected and takes double damage. It is the only one to increase damage from all sources like this, so works with ability damage (like EV proton cannons) and tower damage. This one probably should keep the 60 second cooldown as that makes it the biggest burst by far if you do it right. Less damage than before and way longer cooldown, but still the best in game.

Poison Tips and Sandstorm still increase your hero's damage and anyone very close while you cast it. This doesn't affect damage from some abilities like EV proton cannon though, or increase tower damage. The damage for these two is similar over time (Poison Tips has better burst but is up less and no speed increase), so are pretty close, and I think are in good spots too. For a traditional DPS (especially before you get multiple drachos), these are the goto pet abilities.

Most of the immediate damage ones are pretty similar damage wise, and you can see if it is worth giving up a bit of HD for a special effect or doing area damage (which usually is reduces single target a lot but should). The big hits are 750k or so single target damage, which is much better than before but below Dracho/Tips/Sandstorm. But it helps, and works better in SAs and when someone else is hitting them with Dracho.

Kind of bummed Curse Aura got nerfed hard - 45 second cooldown is pretty bad, especially as melee units are not considered overpowered and need the damage reduction up, and a lot of builders use the speed boost. Remove the damage portion if you need too, but make this up way more so it is useful again. Maybe 40 seconds up and 45 second cooldown so you need to be ready for those 5 unprotected seconds . Same with bearkira the other melee/tank ability - it is pretty weak now so needs some boosting.

Best melee ability might be drenching wave now? That is area damage, and you can drench and shock them if you get storm gloves. I don't melee much so not 100% sure on this.

Guys am I right in understanding any pet that has water damage can roll the following abilities:

  • Blizzard
  • Frost Shards
  • Ice Ball
  • Soothing Water
  • Drenching Wave
  • Bubble Entrapment

I am after Drenching Wave on a Top Cat water damage pet. After many rerolls and not getting it I just want to know if its bad luck or if I am simply not able to roll it or some other variable like diminished chance beyond that of 1 in 9 (including the 3 abilities Cats can roll.

The second question I have is, what Egg do I purchase for a G4-TO pet.

I was kind of hoping Narwhagon and other shield skills gave damage protection instead of damage reflect.

I'd take a potency nerf if it meant it made squishy heros briefly immune to damage.

I believe that to be correct, and it used to be correct. I have a Kitty General with it that I use on my haunted glaive monk with  I had a Earth Creeper that I wanted Curse on before the pet patch, and I used up 18 pet rerolls for that so I know your pain :(

The G4-T0 egg is the premium one - go to the hatchery with any egg, and you can upgrade it to a G4-T0 egg for 600 gems. One comes with the Awakening Custom Pack, so you can get it from there instead.

Another question for you pet fanatics, what pets can stun Ogres for at least 5 seconds?

I am aware Drench + lightning damage can stun them, I just want to know if any other stuns or CC combo's exist from pets that can stun them.

When I started with DD2 again, lvling my squire up to 50 I had some stuns from the cannonball towers a few times. Maybe it was bugged but i'm sure they still do stunn any boss. If not so please tell me. Last time I build cannonball towers it was kinda wasted effort.
