Not Enough Ranged Enemies or Tower evading mechanics

Recommended Posts

The idea of the Ranged enemies was to be able to put a hurting on towers/defenses so that  it would force the heroes to be involved in the fight, so they couldnt just idle and win. However when you get to 25++, especially if you get the  gear that increase your towers range , then those enemies are useless and the game becomes a yawn-fest.

It's to the point when im playing 25++ with groups that actually FIGHTING ,  SLOWS down the game as it is just faster to let the monsters run into the towers. Now i understand that there will be new difficulty modes and boss monsters and special forces and what not, but there is still a problem at the heart of the matter. Eventually armor /stats are gonna be released that are gonna make even THEIR range almost as if nothing in comparison.

So ive already got ideas bouncing around in my head, so youll be seeing them in the forums, but i think , in general, there needs to be something to get around the idea  of just spamming ranged towers, while the enemies just skip to their lou off to their death.  More monster types need to exist that FORCE the players, primarily in harder difficulties, to track the enemy down as opposed to sitting behind their towers and masturbating.

Something is needed, that's for sure.  The problem is figuring out exactly what that should be.  People already have issues with the ranged enemies that already exist.

This is the third thread you created on basically the same subject. Now I get you want your point to be seen as much as possible, but this makes the support for your claim seem more out of proportion than it is. You could easily have posted this in one thread.

Whilst (again) I agree with you in principle, I don't think long range mobs are the solution. I'd rather see events happening inside the lanes. Not all at the same time, so we can go help out where needed, and actually make strategical decisions about where we are needed most. ("Do I go and help out the ranger kiting the ogre in lane 1, or should I help the knight at lane 3 with the tripled wave he is facing?")

Maybe on a beach or swamp map a certain lane can temporarily flood, buffing mobs/debuffing towers, or trigger strong aquatic mobs for a while. Stuff like that. You can't make dynamic decisions like that when you are bound to your lane 24/7 because every now and then a mob with insane range (coupled with fairly high damage) keeps banging at your defenses like a mosquito at 3 o clock in the morning.

You realise we haven't even played Nightmare mode yet, and lets not be hasty. Nightmare on DD1 made a big difference to a lot of the spawns and mechanics.

I'd love to see spiders disarming towers again!

Higher tier enemies could always have more options for upgrades, such as increased range.  Means the highest non-boss tier of J-Throwers might have more range than a max upgrade ballista.

I like the idea of different tiers having different abilities.  Maybe some can blink like queen of pain in Dota 2 (teleport a short distance).

Maybe some can burrow under your towers and appear on the other side like a high tier witherbeast.

PerhaPS one is like a long range catapult / mortar that has lots of minions defending it and it can rain down hell fire on your towers

No thanks... And if it were to be implemented, then only in one lane a time please!

Imagine playing solo with 4 lanes where there are enemies that your towers can't do anything about... You're screwed. This already happened a bit too much to me with the javelins, so i wouldn't like seeing even more of it.

Tiers that do this would not be every single monster.  You would have to seek out specific tiers doing things like this.  The frequency would be enough so that you could solo the whole thing if you keep swapping between lanes, but in multiplayer you could be more lazy about it by focusing on specific lanes waiting for the enemies.

This also goes back to the whole "modify waves based upon number of players" idea.  Mobs like this would be common in a full room, and sparse when solo.  It would probably also need a system to make them easy to spot on the map.

+1 for the system thing to make it possible to spot them... That's my main problem.

On DD1 the spiders spawned down much closer to the towers, it meant you just either a) built some more towers or b) meleed them.

Either way it encourages you to do something new

I'm sure Trendy will develop this as the game progresses. They already did in DD1. Once you learn how to handle Ogre, they throw 10 at you. Plus copters.

I only hope this time it will be more balanced and entertaining. Each of DEW, Spider, Djinn or Sharken could evade your towers in different ways and these were hardcore. Each player whined when these monsters were introduced at first.

I didn't see anyone on the thread talking about playing as Apprentice Tower-only. I like to play like this, and I HATE those ranged enemies. Let me be clear, I do play other chars, I just prefer this one setup. And with this one setup I don't want to go in and get involved with the fighting. With other chars, I'm all in, but not with an Apprentice where I've focused everything on making my towers be the best thing on Earth.

Sorry, but with that playstyle you're going to have problems.  The game wasn't designed to allow every class to counter every enemy at long range.  Some enemies are intentionally designed to get the player into the middle of the fight themselves.

I am hoping for something like an uber-javelin thrower who has extreme range but only targets heroes. ...if they are behind a defense... well... piercing dmg

so, you mean to say that DD2 won't have a "Strategic Mode" like DD1 had? that's kinda sad.
