Do Passives work on characters they don't apply to?

If you have let's say a monk out, with equipment with a passive of "5% chance cannonball to stun", does that passive apply if there are cannonballs on the map? Or does it only work if you're a squire? I can't seem to find any explanation for this and haven't really been able to tell while playing.

This brings up a question or two I have though, is it specifically locked to the character that placed them, or if, say, you placed that Cannonball with a Squire that had the chance to stun, would switching off of them make you lose the bonus?


Another question in the same vein would be, if you placed a Cannonball with a Squire and then switched to a character that has equipment that gets stun on Cannonballs, would it be in effect?

The stats the builder has stay (also chance to frees with frostbite skill and so on)

A monk with stun on cannon would only profit from it if he could place a cannon... So its just useless

Thanks for the info! Makes it a lot harder now to get upgrades with appropriate passives for each character. I was hoping they worked regardless which makes it much easier.

Just thought of another case. My monk has 7.51% increase in all projectile tower ranges. So does that mean it does not affect squire/apprentice traps? Or will it work on all towers on the map as long as I'm using my monk?

I think they need to clarify this somewhere and add some info as it's extremely confusing right now.

What about stats like extra xp or gold on mobs death? does those only apply if you actually play the character during the wave, and does it only affect you or also your teammates?

It does affect team mates, but I think it only applies if the character is active.  But I do know that it applies to everyone.

The exception here is that, if the hero that builds the defense changes their current gear, every defense they've made changes too.  If you build that cannon while using an item that makes cannons stun, and then take the item off, the cannons will no longer stun.  If you build the cannon and then equip such a cannon stun item on the hero that made that cannon, it will start to stun.  Defenses are just matched to the exact hero who made them, regardless of if that hero is still active or not.

Currency and experience boosts do not currently affect other teammates but that is something we are looking into and think it might be a cool addition to DD2 in the future. As for the rest of your question, these boosts only apply to the hero that wears them and obviously only when you are using that hero.
