You may need to tell a select few people who it is to vouch for them because many do not like bidding against private bidders. I think a pair of arm guards went to a known hacker one time because of a private buyout because the seller didnt know about them.

You dont have to of course but there are just a handful of people that could possibly bid that much, especially when you are not accepting armor below ult+.

Holy... Who had that amount of stuff left to bid with :O Not everyone can throw 6,800 cubes(worth)..

(Aprilcuno is not hated because he is bidding. If I understood correctly, he is hated because he is bidding with leftover event items so going by that logic, the mysterious bidder is another event host..hmmm..)

Yes, I auctioned off some very expensive items. Yes, I did keep a couple of the sets that Johnno gave me for the Earths. I have a 3/4 ult+ set on my summoner in the event that I ever come back. Mr. Glass is sporting a capped ult dps set. Should I have cleared it with the team first, probably. Did I, no, I considered it as payment for 2 things. First, all of my celeb hats that were auctioned off in order to continue to bring you guys the events while we were waiting for the final set of items to be made. Secondly, as payment for the hundreds of hours that I put into organizing and running the countless number of giveaways that we ran. As for this topic, I remember the conversation with Art about excess hats. I remember telling him to do what he wanted to do. However, I was not the head of the event team, merely the unofficial face of it. I didn't see a problem with using one in a bid for something. I think that is more of a case by case basis. In this case, I don't know that it is actually right to take advantage of our excess to buy another armguard when you already have some. However, I'm not saying that it is really wrong either. A lot of hours were put in hosting events for people. This is similar to a payment.

I dont think people have a problem with a couple of armor sets. But as you said this is a lot of event items changing hands if it went to Arti. I dont think people are hating on Arti in particular just the idea of using extra items for great personal gain.

However I doubt there are any rules against or even a gray area about event hosts exchanging event items from one account to another. If you did it this way, then Arti gets another set to hold on to as an event host, Deathdealer gets a lot of other event items to giveaway, Death can also auction another set to the community later if he wanted to and the community still gets a chance at more items from the giveaways later. Everyone wins then. Although someone might be able to shoot holes in that idea.

I think I understand most of what he is saying and considering his primary language is probably not english, then that is pretty good. If I had to read german or another language besides maybe spanish, then I would be completely lost.

EagleOne's is just wanting to know why even hosts get to use multiple event items for their personal gain when their were so many rules in place to prevent participants from getting multiples previously. Seems like a double standard to him and others, probably. (If I read that right)

He mentioned how eagle gave away lots of extra event items but I would say that he also auctioned a few pricey items as well. I believe he then kept just a couple things for himself from those auctions and used the majority of it to fund his giveaways. It seems deathdealer is doing something similar and will be giving most of it away.

Lastly, he points out that it is hard to compete against an event host with lots of high value items. So then his question is why even have this auction if no one can compete against an event host. It then just seems a show for some is his point. And whether that is the point of this or not, it is just going to be perceived to be that way be some. Everyone sees things differently.

Bottom line though is that if Trendy and the events team do not have a problem with it then everything is above board. Also, in the end the community will still have a chance at lots of event items when deathdealer does his giveaway.
Thanks a bunch, exactly what I've tried to say. This show off is ridiculous.

It takes time, commitment, respect and General love of the game to be an event host. Sure we all look back and say, "Heck, I wish I was a host so I could enjoy the many arm guards, to a point where I have a sleeve of guards on every extremity of my body".

Fact is, we aren't, but the people who did had to put up with the ridiculous spam in the event chat, constantly updating sheets of who has ran events and who hasn't, organising the items, running events over and over again, to spend a certain amount of hours each day during the event weekend to get people done, to get moaned at because they weren't online fast enough, to be committed enough to never be able to quit the game properly because DD "Jobs" call should enjoy some spoils. Not to mention the wave of givaways from Eagle and other hosts, who essentially gained 0 profit from it all but did it because they're awesome.

I'm not a fan of the whole logistics of it all, theres probably a bunch of information I don't know about when it comes to exploiting the many folders of event goodies in peoples boxes etc, but I think we can say they have the right to at least enjoy some spoils that comes with the job. :x

But, we still complain about stuff because verbally announcing displeasure while sitting on our computers, is easy. Its a shame, but its easy.

Everyone in the community knows how annoying bidding against a private bidder is, it's mainly just a hassle. I may continue in the auction, but I may just back out and giveaway a bunch of items to mostly deserving players. (outstanding members of the community, and those who are lacking currency)

I may stay in the auction, and bid higher. But it's just getting out of hand, and has become a total annoyance. I already have a set, and don't really feel the need to deal with any of the people complaining about anything they can possibly think up. They often forget it's just a game that they're throwing a fit over.

Either way, I'll talk to some people on Steam, and you'll have my answer within the next couple days. I got stuff outside of DD to do, I'll be back sometime.

I've gone up against silent bidders in the past and then dropped all bids when the auction turned that way.

Don't allow the auction to be spoiled by someone (if they even exist to begin with) who can't show their face. It's rude to everyone if they won't openly bid.

I think everyone needs to take a chill pill too. It's like real life. Some are richer than others.

I would agree with showing their face but I also understand why they'd like to remain silent otherwise I wouldn't allow it (plus, its not an auction for me,its an auction for a giveaway so the more items the better anyway).

As for your other point, people are richer than others, that's just how it goes with capitalism, and on top of that this is just a game, items are just numbers and in the end that's all they the will ever be. Its like life in some aspects, while at the same time (being just a game and all) it is very much different.

There is a chill pill dispenser by the tavern keep if anyone needs a dose or two...

EDIT: I will be quite busy with my family coming in and my sisters wedding happening. I'll try and keep up with the c/o's if there are any (looks like this is more of a discussion now than anything) but no promises.
See you guys in a bit!

Wow. Amazing that you went from having just a couple of arm guards to having all but the poison according to your signature. And you still have a ton to bid it seems.

It does, doesn't it? This is because I have a particular feathered friend who happened to have the guards I was missing, in addition to the funds to purchase the final one, which he didn't have a duplicate of. I gave him the information that I was only a few items from being completely done, and he decided to help.

That is such a nice bird. Congrats. Good luck on those poisons then.

So after discussing the issue with a few friends I have decided not to accept private bids. I didnt realize it would cause an issue, at the time I saw no problem with it. My thought process was that since the auction wasnt for me and that it was for a give away that private bids wouldn't be an issue but now I see why its not a good idea.

With this being said I am not immediately revoking the private bids but rather giving the bidder 24 hours to come forward or have his/her bids revoked. (It not being my place to say who it is I will allow them to come forward themselves)

I appreciate you guys sticking with me while we work through this, I made the mistake of a rushed decision to accept private bids because I wanted more items for the give away, but I assure you this will not be happening again. Neither for a give away or personal gain.
I hope this corrects the mistake I made.

24 hours starts now at 7:30 PM my time.

Not to reveal to much information, but there is a finite supply of official items out in the world and we are not getting any made to the best of my knowledge. That being said, I have been gone a long time now and a LOT could have changed unbeknownst to me.

Side note:

Hi Classic, how is the fam doing?

It is your auction and you get to decide the rules. It is not the best idea from a history point of view in an auction as grand as this but you still get to decide.

Hi. I don't want to take this off topic at all, but the family is getting there. Toddler with tonsillitis and all. Apart from that all is well, been far busier than I wish I was though. Hope you are well, and the fam of course ;)

I think you're doing the right thing Death. Silent bidders often ruin things, if only through paranoia. If you have the stuff to bid, then you can afford to be public about it ;)

Unfortunately the Event Items ended up destroying the Economy even though they were never intended to do so (There are various reasons on why this happened). With this said I personally believe at this time the Event items should no longer be traded and/or auctioned off due to there extreme rarity, dupes, and its toxic presence that it has on the DD1 Economy. JMO and best of luck to the bidders!
