DD:A Console & 1.2 Update, DD2 Events, and Franchise Steam Sale

Defenders,

Lots of things happening this week across the entire Dungeon Defenders franchise so let's just jump into the details.

DD:A Console Update
This year has been a wild ride, as humans and as a studio we have been presented with unforeseen challenges across the board. A ton of progress has been made on our console ports, and we’re nearing the finish line. Our initial focus for consoles was to get the game running on the Nintendo Switch, pouring months of engineering effort into optimizing the Switch and console experience. After incredible improvements, we are not satisfied with the overall experience on the Switch and have decided to change our focus in order to get a console version of DD:A into your hands as quickly as possible.

DD:A on the Xbox
Recently we changed our focus in terms of console work over to the Xbox One. Immediately we saw increased performanced and a better overall experience, which was really exciting. All of the hard work that we poured into the Switch version carries over into the Xbox version, and also later the Playstation version, so none of our work was wasted.

When?
We are working with Microsoft to target a Q1 2021 launch for the Xbox. As we progress through the certification process we will update the community on a more exact month or date. We need to get through “cert” first, then we can work with Microsoft to set an exact launch date.

What about the other platforms?
Once we are through the certification process for Xbox, we begin that same process with Playstation & Switch. So Xbox will be released first, followed by Playstation & Switch.

What about the new consoles?
We will be releasing DD:A on both Microsoft and Sony’s new consoles as hardware test kits become available. We’re waiting for the opportunity to jump quickly on getting into certification and releasing DD:A on this new hardware.

1.2 Update Check In
We are working on Update 1.2 polish, bug fixes, and entering our final phase of testing. We will have a launch date for this update for the community soon. While we have had quite a few people working on this update over the last few months, our primary focus as a studio has been on the consoles. We do not want to rush this update out, so are taking the necessary time to polish the systems and test it before release.  Rift Mode, Transmog, new accessories, and more are coming your way, as well as Trading, Reforge and the remaining in-game Kickstarter rewards in a follow-up patch!

Are you guys fing kidding me!? I literally bought a switch early this year specifically for dda...

This was my primal responds when I read this. I mean no sh*t it runs better on an xbox or ps4 or pc for that matter.

I guess I'm happy you guys are finally being slightly honest at least to say you you took to big of a challenge with the switch...

So hyped for the steam sale tough lol

I'm still waiting for all my codes given to me from Kickstarter for PS4, My kickstarter was the gilded tavern, I hope I still get all those codes. I've only recieved codes for DD2.

So is this an Xbox timed exclusive now and if so, what happened to the Switch deal? If money was involved, does the new deal cover the old and is necessary?

Or is there another reason it's releasing on Xbox first? As you say you are going through the other console certification processes after rather than alongside as none has still come through, hence the lack of a date. Can we be 100% sure it will still release on these consoles at all?

I am happy there is some response now, but it really makes you question if you know what is going on yourselves.

I'm willing to wait what it takes for the switch version, as I have the PC one too. I'm still a supporter. But it would be nice to know at least a basic reason behind some choices when it regards already late releases.

As put nicely as possible... this is messy.

"When?

Still haven't learned from your mistakes? :classic_sad:. Do not give a release window, because you will most likely not be able to meet that time frame....which is 90% of what got players mad at you guys in the first place.

Do not give a release time, until you know an actual date, for a fact, that it will be released. Just some advice.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I love the first Dungeon Defenders. I played it on PS3 and it's easily in my top 20 games of all-time (not that I have an actual list), and I've been gaming since Atari. So that's a lot of games I've played.

DD2, I didn't like so much (microtransactions ruined it).

I was excited when I learned you were making DD Awakened (with no microtransactions).....then I learned it's basically a glorified version of the first DD. It didn't turn me off from wanting to play it, but it certainly look A LOT of the excitement out of it. I'm still very much looking forward to playing it though.

And even though DD Awakened most likely won't be out on Playstation for another year or so, I'm still holding out hope for DD3 down the road someday. DD3, I completely new DD game, with all new maps, weapons, etc. with no microtransactions. I realize something like that would be like 5-10 years down the road lol.

Also, some more advice: I can promise that DD fans aren't as angry with you guys as gamers were with Hello Games and that whole No Man's Sky nonsense..... and yet nearly everybody loves Hello Games now, for their efforts and dedication (post-launch) to the game and making up for their mistakes.  Please learn from Hello Games, and once you do fully release DDA for consoles.... do everything in your power to earn back our trust, because No Man's Sky PROVES that you can (if you handle the situation correctly) earn trust back from gamers.

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty upset that Switch is being forced to take the backseat, especially since it was touted to release "soon" for such a long time. And during that time, all we got was radio silence without any sort of communication or updates.

Hi I literally made an account just to reply to you because its very clear you lack what I though was basic knowledge so I'll put this as nicely as possible.

The reason any developer chooses to release on Xbox is because literally anyone can release anything on Xbox.

That thing is just a glorified PC,

They have very minimal standards compared to Sony & Nintendo who don't just accept....crap that crashes/blue screens,

Its why APB reloaded can't get updates now that its released.

Every time that company tries they get denied because the game still crashes mainly due to the new team not knowing how to code.

But it makes a perfect example of why developers choose Xbox over Sony.

APB was released on Xbox long before it came to ps4 then it switched hands into even more incompetent developer.

TLDR:Xbox supports newcomers &

Sony + Nintendo have standards.

Xbox sharing 75% of its features with pc also helps.

(Notice how if you can do it on pc you can do it on Xbox?)

But rest assured we will all eventually get our DD A

And trust me, you don't want weekly updates on progress.

That'd look more or less like (we fixed this & broke that so we walked that back and are now at square 1) every week.

You DO NOT want weekly updates.

Monthly is fine.

So, working on a Switch primary version you could port to XB1 and PS4 wasn't viable given the hardware limitations.

As stated above, DunDef is one of my all time favorite games, and I've also been gaming since original arcades & Atari 2600. I don't think I'll join another crowd funding venture again. By the time this releases on PS4, I'll be six months deep into my PS5 and completely forgotten about DDA for the third time since originally donating.

I'll cut you guys some slack, since I'm busy with Demon's Souls. Finish your spit shine and deliver a functional product before your console fan base quits caring.

Knowing a possible reason for something does not mean knowing the reason. There are many to choose from, but all can mean a different development position.

For example, If they were being supplemented by a deal with Nintendo, then a release elsewhere sounds like that could be over, meaning they may need support elsewhere. Was this deal needed or was it just choice is what I am asking. I choose not to assume, but knowing where they are right now could be helpful to understanding decisions or what to expect next or what may be needed. I have supported them since Kickstarter and I will continue to do so.

I didn't ask for weekly updates.

Yeah, only ever jump in with the knowlege that you could lose what you have given and are doing so purely for support. If you are okay with that, I say support away. If not, it is always wise to wait for the final product. By nature, these things can go either way. They needed support for a reason, it is a hard job getting things off the ground.

I don't regret giving this a chance. I just hope they are able to do what they wanted with the least struggle.

Oof. I mean, at least there's some news, but as a Switch owner who also has a ps4, this isn't the news I wanted to hear. I haven't even gotten a contact email for my physical items yet (tshirt, poster, etc) and now I find put I'm probably waiting at least another 6 months to play it...

It beats hearing no news at all, though.

Gee, I bought the packages throughout the year and it appears to me now with 50% discount, so far it's no problem but I can't even repeat DLC purchases with discounts now. I think it's disrespectful to those who spent not being able to take advantage of the discounts now, or at least double the gems for those who made the complete purchase with the full amount.

I hope they give console players compensation for their lack of communication and failure to keep their false promises, you said console versions would've been out by now, we're falling behind on the gold, exp and farming for gear and stuff compared to pc and they're getting all the extra exp and gold events pushing them even further ahead of us.

This Dungeon Defenders update is truly a game-changer! The enhancements and DD2 events are fantastic additions. While we're leveling up in the gaming world, let's not forget the importance of real-life preparedness. Emergencies, like unexpected expenses or rent needs, can pop up. For those situations, understanding options like https://paydaysay.com/what-are-emergency-loans-for-rent/ can be a valuable resource. Stay informed, stay empowered, and enjoy both your gaming adventures and life's journey!
