Power Up - Patch Preview

It’s time to dust off your Hero Deck and slide the Apprentice, Squire, Huntress, and Monk back in! The Power Up update boosts the original four heroes, finally making them as powerful as true サイヤ人 -- err, we mean, the Abyss Lord and Series EV2. But it might be hard for them to keep up since this update also introduces the new queen of DPS, the Gun Witch!

Looking for someone with a Gun Witch? With the new Game Browser, you can see a list of every game being played, and you can create custom game names to find the players you want! The update also includes many rebalanced passives and weapons along with our very first Armor Set for you to discover. Oh, and did we mention this gear is now distributed across a variety of maps? We think it's time to go create a  “FARMING FOR 4/s Armageddon” lobby.

Our heroes are powering up this July! Stay tuned next week for the patch’s release date, but in the meantime, read on for more details about the Power Up update:

The Gun Witch

With a passion for witchcraft and a touch of gunpowder, we’re proud to present to you… the Gun Witch! Using Broom Power, a magically regenerating resource, the Gun Witch has no need for blue mana and can use all her powers at will. With abilities and witchcraft spells, the Gun Witch can fly from spot to spot, hovering in the air as she snipes enemies on the ground. Meet the Gun Witch in the video above for a full overview!

Hero Buffs

It’s time for the four main heroes to get a boost! These updates will bring the original heroes to Abyss Lord and Series EV2 power level. When the patch comes out in July, you’ll be able to check out all the nitty-gritty details in the patch notes. Here’s a preview of some of the notes: RPG PATCH NOTES.

qog6RG1.png

  • We’re buffing the Apprentice to increase the damage viability of his defenses, giving him a tankier Arcane Barrier, and drastically reducing his ability cooldowns so they’re fun to use frequently.

lATH9Rl.png

  • We’re making the Squire a more viable melee and ability power fighter. We’ll be making both of his blockades sturdier and increase the damage of all of his defenses. We're also experimenting with removing root motion, so you can move and attack at the same time.

  • We’ve modified each of the Monk’s melee attacks to make his polearm types more unique. We’ve also boosted the damage output of his damage dealing towers and boosting ability of his Boost Aura.

EtSPF2D.png

  • We’ve reduced the cooldowns and increased the damage on many of the Huntress’s abilities. We gave all of her traps a substantial damage boost and modified the Poison Dart Tower so it’s more effective on the battlefield.

Game Browser

We’ve made a ton of changes to how you play maps and create games in the Power Up update! With the new Game Browser, you can now see every game being played. No more jumping blindly into a game hoping to find other players! Use the map, mode and difficulty filters to find the open games you want to play, or create your own. Entice players to join you by adding a custom name to your game. With the minimum iPWR filter, you can make sure the right people are joining your games. Based on your feedback, we’ll add more filters and settings to make sure finding and playing with other players is an enjoyable experience.

We’ve also restructured the game into three game modes: Campaign, Challenges (previously called Incursions), and Onslaught. All of these modes are unlocked from the beginning. Each mode now contains the following difficulties: Normal, Hard, Expert, Insane, and Nightmare I - IV. Thanks to your Influence Vote, Normal and Hard are both unlocked from the beginning, and the other difficulties unlock as your heroes’ level increases.

Passive Updates

Since we’ll be powering up the main four heroes, we also wanted to do a balance pass on many of the passives and legendary weapons in the game. In many cases we have combined passives that previously appeared on many items to a single passive that rolls on a single item. These new items will be guaranteed drops on specific maps.

Our end goal: The ability to target farm the gear you need to make your heroes awesome!

Squire and Apprentice becoming viable again? PLEASE! I'm excited for the balance changes and hope the new heroes are boosted enough to catch up!

Gun Witch looks pretty OP with that book ability and simultaneously freezing and stunning enemies.

Also I'm curious about something, why are you guys buffing Uubers if the original 4 characters are going to lose them?

Anyway I was not impressed with the Huntress's damage in this latest patch, she needs way more of a oomph then that if she is to compete with Ev2.

The rest looks promising at least.

Except of course for adding even more difficulties to the mix. Seriously Idk what you guys are thinking there.

We're actually decreasing the number of difficulties. Before we had:

  • Campaign Easy
  • Campaign Normal
  • Free Play Easy
  • Free Play Normal
  • Free Play Hard
  • End Game Normal
  • End Game Hard
  • End Game Insane
  • End Game NM 1-4

And all of those modes had an increasing iPWR and difficulty progression. Now that we're consolidating the "Free Play" and "End Game" modes into Campaign, we need a difficulty between "Hard" and "Insane" that the former multiple Free Play/End Game modes accounted for. So while technically, yes, there is a new difficulty name, the number of difficulties have decreased, if that makes sense. Just even thinking about the current setup of the game makes my head spin. Emoji_Goblin.png

The number one thing I suggest is to please give the monk some resistance or something more damage is great but the main thing that makes him almost impossible to use on new content is you still get 1 shotted by bombers 3 shotted by normal enemies and all bosses pretty much 1 shot. If I had to suggest  any thing give him some kind of resistance and then a little more dmg overall. The monk has always been my favorite dps from dd1 and I like him in dd2 its just hes almost unusable on nm4 :(

It looks great but, book polymorph looks too powerful if it works on Mr Squish 'n' Smash will it work on ALL bosses, if so that is too powerful.

Two gun witches and archers equals dead boss with no damage to defences.

Great work Trendy!

Can't wait for the Gun Witch.

Quick question, will this update also have a fixed onslaught mode? With fixed I mean, better rewards as you progress through new waves. At the moment, onslaught simple doesn't seem worth the time.

Thanks in advance.

Finally, maybe now I'll actually be able to play this game with someone instead of hoping to get lucky blindly joining a match or just looking for people in the hub.

I don't think this update has any changes to Onslaught, but I'm sure they will "fix" it eventually (:

I quit the game after the Abyss Lord was released.  Old characters felt SUPER stale and there was no reason to use anyone other than Abyss Lord due to his OP'ness.

I kind of thought that releasing characters and making money was the main goal for awhile, so I wasn't going to spend money on a new characters release once every 1-2 months, when those new characters were so cool and the old ones were left like sticks in the mud and were almost all rendered useless....

Glad to see all these updates happen.  Content shouldnt be gated based on people buying the new OP character minute one, grinding to max level in an hour, and chugging through NM4 content they couldn't before because the new character has a wall thats seriously 500-600k more HP and their ranged units are insanely better than any other classes.

I am SUPER STOKED for this update.  Vote iamisom!  Please make the old characters good again!

Uh... Spike Blockades have always been superior to the orcs purely as a wall. The higher health pool is mostly just misleading.

So Gun Witch has no towers but is basically ranged version of Barbarian? Meh.

Would make sense if I could tell all the abilities apart from this video. Sounds like some are very similiar to each other and uninspired.

I feel like one of the skins for the  gun witch should be the ordinary magician kirisame marisa mainly because of the use of her broom and attire.

All I hope is that the monsters update won't take too long to come because with the original 4 getting powered up the game will become even easier than it already is.

Don't get me wrong I'm happy that all characters will be truly viable now and maybe we will see a lot more different builds (getting sick of archers) but if the mobs don't get some love soon too were all gonna die of boredom.

But for now this new update seems to be nice.
