Hello Defenders! In this Devstream, Phil, Tim and Jay reveal changes to the pet system and answer your questions! What changes to the pet system, you ask? 

  • We've removed the hatch timer and will be switching to a standard inventory system. 
  • All players who have purchased or played the game before Open Alpha will start with 40 pet slots. 
  • Any players that come in after this will start with 16 pet slots.
  • Players will be able to buy up to 80 pet slots using gems
  • 8 slots will cost 200 gems and 16 slots will cost 320 gems.  
  • We will be looking to expand normal inventory bags in the future.

Got really excited for no pet timer so I logged into the game and went to hatch a pet and still 8 hour wait =[ lol

I am for no hatch time and all. But we really need things like Pet Ability Rerolls and maybe reducing the time it takes to level up it's Power. Also, most of us will have probably 2 pets per character, so maybe being able to sell them would also help.

Glad to see the long hatch time going away. My request is that pets can be sold for gold. I can sell an egg for $250, but after waiting 8 hours the pet sells for $0. I'd also like to see a variety in pet attacks similar to the recent weapon update. Also details on how many projectiles the pet shoots makes the listed damage very confusing. A pet says it's damage is 500 and launches one attack every few seconds. On the other hand, a pet with 150 listed damage shoots 6 projectiles doing more damage than the previously mentioned pet.

The no pet hatch timer will be back permanently with Monday's patch!

Thank you. Watching this stream really let me have a total positive feeling towards the upcoming features (not only content but also the rest).


Thanks for answering so much questions even my stupid ones. ^^ It is a bit sad for me there won't be core skins but regarding the lore it is totally understandable.


Your yes-answer about the color palette question surprised me a lot and I'm REALLY happy about this. I fear this will be an opportunity where I will invest way too much of my money. ^^°

Just say the word 'pets' and I'm interested.

By the way, pet exp is currently 5000 multiplied by their level, making the cakes a perfect amount. Does this mean it's gonna be slightly off? And should I therefore hold off on levelling up 'til the patch? Because I have like, 12 bags and half of it's taken up by non-stacking pet food.

just remove bags alltogether... use a 'item category' based system with a global weight or item-count limit

and while you are at it, intruduce inventory-icon scaling, make (all) boxes stackable  and fix drag+drop please...

Why not just put a cooldown on the incubator rather than the egg hatching? Seems like few people want to wait, but if you want to limit how many we can hatch, that could be a way.

CAn we please have an option to auto-sell below mythic quality items either in the tavern, or in the map itself (between waves)?

The amount of junk items is way too much.

Also please disable the colorful light beams on all below mythic items.

well focus on ONE pet... u will have a high one. imo it should be a hard grind to get it to 60 or 45 elder form. this is like an endgame grind to get the last extra power out of the pet. keep it as it is. spend ur cash on pet food. play onlsuaght for items to sell, gold and pet food. PS: welcome to the grind^^

My friend installed the game on Monday, before Open Alpha was live (Tuesday). I gave him the key from my Alpha Invite that I received via email.

Although he played before Open Alpha, he only got 16 pet slots. Why?

It's possible that, if he didn't play the game before Tuesday, he didn't receive the extra pet slots. Did he start playing the game on Monday, or was it on Tuesday?

We're still deciding on that, but it's possible that this change will come over to the PS4, too.

I don't think 80 slots will be enough honestly. Already there are about 40 different skins, then there is the golden versions.  I guess when we hit 80 you can always raise the limit again.

So right now, we're actually running into a technical limitation with how large a bag can get. It's something we're hoping to iron out. At this time, we're not comfortable increasing the bag limit above 80 slots, but if we can figure out this issue, we'll look into increasing that number.

He started to play right away on Monday (12th) night, European time. The free Alpha did not go live on the Steam store until Tuesday night.
