Greetings, Defenders!


Our next patch for Dungeon Defenders II, Alpha & Beyond, is coming out this September! This patch will begin our Alpha phase of development. Since almost every Early Access developer (and platform) uses different terminology, here’s our definitions:


Phases of Development for Dungeon Defenders II:

  • Pre-Alpha- This is where we develop the core features of the game. Public releases are often far apart and most work is focused on the initial creation of core features and gameplay systems. (Note: This is the state of the game since our release in Early Access)

  • Alpha- In this phase we rapidly iterate on and improve the core feature set of the game. Feature work is still ongoing in this phase, but we will also be focusing on bug fixing and balancing on a near weekly basis.

  • Open Alpha - This is the same phase as Alpha, but open to everyone. There will be no full wipes once we reach this stage. If there are balance or other issues we will deal with them in similar methods to other online games.

  • Open Beta - At this point, core feature work is mostly complete. We will be fully operating the game as a live product. Most of our time will be spent creating new content (levels, bosses, events, items) and continuing to balance the game.

  • Free to Play- Release! Here we consider the game has enough content to be “released.” From here on we will be making new content, creating post-release features, and more!


The PlayStation 4 version of the game will be following a similar roadmap once released, just a few steps behind the PC version. We may be using slightly different terminology though, due to the platform. We’ll have more details on the PlayStation 4 soon!

How many wipes/what kind of wipes/when are the wipes that we should be expecting before the release of the Beta/free to play? I can't speak for everyone, but i am not interested in leveling 10 of the same characters in this game to 50. With that being said, i understand that i paid for the Pre Alpha and did this to myself, but i just want to know what the future holds for my characters that i spent 70 plus hours on so far. Also, will there be any rewards to the players who helped shape this game for you by providing feedback/bug support? This may have already been answered, but i don't see it in any official posts.

I would like to second this. I also know that as a pre-Alpha/Alpha game that this would be a likely occurrence, I am still wondering if I get some of my work back to me after a wipe? 4 50's, NM mode, hours upon hours with the pet system and theory crafting.

Can we get any type of hint or spoiler as to what rewards might be handed out to those who have spent countless hours in the game? I know we do it for the betterment of the game (and fun, duh!), but a monotary reward/consolation would be lovely for it.

I think it'd likely just be hero and gear wipes, as there probably won't be too many more major game play updates

This question is asked a million times every single dev stream and the answer is exactly the same every single time. They don't plan to wipe anything unless they absolutely have to and they won't know if they have to until that time comes so asking this over and over and over and over a million times will not change that answer.

I'm very pleased with the game so far, it feels like a solid foundation that's way beyond what I'd expect of a Pre-Alpha. I hope that Alpha will bring more content to the game as the few maps up to beating Betsy don't feel like a lot of content and are increasingly tedious to grind now that it's 50 character levels.

Looking forward to seeing the following in order of importance...

  1. A lot more maps as their aren't nearly enough to maintain interest long term
  2. The alternate gender characters from DD1 - Countess (Female Squire), Adept (Female Apprentice), Ranger (Male version of Huntress) & Initiate (Female version of Monk)
  3. Outfits for the above
  4. Seasonal maps (Themes like the Halloween & Xmas levels from DD1)
  5. Seasonal outfits for above
  6. Seasonal pets
  7. The other Heroes I could wait for the longest (I don't miss any of them to be honest, though I'm sure they had their fans who eagerly await their return)

1 and 2 are absolute musts, in my opinion. Having only one playable Female character, even with the multitude of outfits, isn't enough.

But all that being said, I'm loving what I am seeing so far. The hectic gameplay and the colourful cartoony artwork really feels like the successor to the original Dungeon Defenders.

well, i see your points, but well ... people would take you more seriously if you meant to go for quality rather than quantity ... 

Its not like the game is broken or anythuing. balance changes usually comes first in beta anyhows.

You are speaking about gameplay issues, not core issues.
Everything you spoke about is balancing and fixing.
Pre-Alphas and Alphas are most of the time no where near to the finished project.
They are mostly just about the core mechanics and ideas.
If a team would make one topic at a time, till it's perfect, the game wouldn't be released in the next 10 years.

Take the human body as an analogy.
At first you can crawl and maybe interact with things.
This is called Pre-Alpha
Your heart is working, your brain is functioning and you start to notice stuff around you.

The next step is to learn those functions, to combine them and maybe use them to do something.
This step is called Alpha and is about thinking about those functions, to improve them and get use of it.

You are talking about Beta-Topics like playing "Bach" or "Mozart" on Piano.

Thanks for your feedback! Most of the things you mentioned appear to be bug-related, and some of them are balance-related. These are things that we're going to continually fix and improve as we have been in our previous hotfixes. Moving into Alpha doesn't mean we'll stop improving these things -- in fact, it means we're going to put even more effort into them! :)

This is just part in playing something that isn't even in beta production yet. If this was a game that has already went gold I could understand your complaint. For something that has been pre-alpha, I'm surprised it didn't full wipe more often.

Confused about the fact, that Trendy erased the Post of someone who spotted some of the construction zones they should handle first, before going to release the game. 

It was a little bit harsh, but there were no insults to you guys, as well as constructive critic what you should look at/what is important.

Why are you moderating so hard? 


Topic: Would like to see a Wipe when the game goes gold (and if necessary before :) ), otherwise you can prepare for a hard ***storm from people who didn't played the game in alpha/beta and you know, on Steam people usually take a look on Usercritic.

Meanwhile, you should focus on getting an idea where you want your game to be when it goes gold, because at the moment it doesn't feels that why (don't misunderstand, I'm loving the game so far!!).

Bring more variations in Stats (atm it's just DD1 with better graphics and different maps), more Skills/Towers for the existing Heroes.

I think something you should focus on before going Free Alpha is trading, cause my friends and I hate the fact since we bought the game last year, that we still can't trade!!!! (I think this should be priority Nr. 1 atm)

Keep on with those Maps, they are really great designed and are literally awesome!

The Performance seems to be at a good point so far, some tweaks here and there should do it.


Altogether, I'm loving the game so far and I hope for a bright future, for both the Community and you Trendy!

Dear team dev, 


I really hope that in future you can add a feature to reconnect to previous game sometime we got disconnected or crash in the middle of the game and we cant reconnect if we are playing solo. 


Let face it not everyone in this world have fibre optic connection and they might get disconnected. Or even your server too highly populated and make some user crash or disconnected. 


That feature will definately help lots of people. And also why cant our bonus stat still in game when we got disconnected. It will always lead to wipe if the builder got disconnected. 


So i appriciate it if you could add feature such reconnect or abandon game like in dota2. And maybe give sometime before the bonus stat dissappear like 5min unless the builder reconnected within the time.

Trading and private tavern shops, that's what this game needs badly.


The whole buying, selling and trading functions in DD1 kept that game alive. I met a lot of new people in my little shop and had tons of fun with it. It was like a small social game within DD1.

They said they wouldn't wipe anything unless absolutely necessary, before, but then they wiped more than was necessary the last time. I can understand people being wary after that and wanting some reassurance.

But was it a forced wipe? No. They asked the community, us, if we wanted a full or partial wipe. We decided to make it a full wipe, not them. So it is entirely on us.


I agree with Finaldeath. This question have been answered countless times on countless forum posts and countless devstreams, so i can understand why devs keep silent now. I would stop answering as well. The ignorance people have is immeasurable.

my problem with wipe is that trendy said from the beginning that they would do wipes only if really necessary so you do it on a regular basis or you dont and now i dont see any point of doin a full wipe again....
